SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION HANDBOOK FOR THE 2015-2016 ACADEMIC YEARPrepared each year, the SCC Scholarship Handbook includes general and specific scholarships, and scholarship programinformation. Annual Scholarship Handbooks are available in the Admissions and Records Office (E-101), CounselingDepartment (D-106), Financial Aid Office (E-104), the SCC Bookstore (A-101), SCC Scholarship Program Office (A–210),and Student Life & Leadership (A-206). Since the handbook is prepared months in advance, the information publishedis subject to change. Every attempt has been made to guarantee the accuracy of the scholarships and the criteria listedin this handbook. Scholarships are subject to donor commitment and availability of funds. The SCC Scholarship ProgramOffice is bound by the wishes of each scholarship donor. In the event that a recipient is unable to meet the eligibilityrequirements of their scholarship, it is incumbent upon the recipient to meet with the Scholarship Program Office staffto discuss an equitable and fair solution.3

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION HANDBOOK FOR THE 2015-2016 ACADEMIC YEARAPPLICATION DEADLINE: March 12, 2015PLEASE READ THESE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLYINTRODUCTON:Santiago Canyon College (SCC) scholarships are awarded on the basis of criteria established by donors. Please refer tothe specific description for each scholarship. Scholarships are available to continuing SCC students and SCC studentstransferring as a junior to a four-year college or university. Scholarship assistance is provided by individual donors, nationalassociations, local clubs, societies, businesses, the SCC Staff, SCC Faculty, and SCC Foundation Office. All awards are basedon the receipt of funding from donors. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee, unlessindicated as a “donor selected” scholarship, in which case the recipients are selected by their donor.REQUIREMENTS:Applicants MUST: Be registered for classes at Santiago Canyon College Have declared SCC as their “Home Campus” (please check with Admissions & Records Office) Be enrolled at SCC in a minimum of six (6) units for the fall 2014 and a minimum of six (6) units for the spring 2015semesters, AND Have completed a total of twelve (12) college units by the end of the spring 2015 semester. For purposes of this application process, all academic information (including coursework completed at other colleges) MUST show on yourSCC transcript by the deadline date of March 12, 2015.Additional Requirements:In addition to the SCC Scholarship Program requirements, each scholarship has its own criteria. Read carefully throughthis book to determine if your qualifications match the criteria listed. You may apply for any and all scholarships forwhich you meet the criteria. *Please do not check mark every box on page 30. Applicants who check mark every boxwill not be considered for any of the scholarships.RECOMMENDATION LETTERS:For most scholarships one (1) letter of recommendation is all that needs to be included in your SCC Scholarship ApplicationPacket. Make sure to check the specific requirements of each scholarship you apply for. Some scholarships may require morethan one recommendation letter and some require letters of recommendation from specific sources. Recommendationletters may come from an instructor, school advisor, a community leader, or an employer.Please Note: Students MUST include a minimum of one to a maximum of three, letters of recommendation in the ApplicationPacket. (DO NOT INCLUDE MORE THAN THREE.)If you prefer, there is a Personal Recommendation Form in this handbook (Page 31), to be used in place of the traditionalletter of recommendation—you do not need both. Should you leave this form with an instructor, it is your responsibilityto make sure that this form is returned to the SCC Scholarship Program Office (A-210) on or before the deadline ofMarch 12, 2015.AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT/PERSONAL STATEMENT:This is your opportunity to tell the Scholarship Selection Committee all about yourself. Discuss your future plans, goalsand why you need this scholarship, etc. Your statement should demonstrate specific criteria as listed in the scholarshipdescription. Please limit this statement to ONE page. For more information about preparing this statement, or any otherquestions you may have, we suggest you attend a Scholarship Workshop (see page 7 for dates and times).6

You may need torefer to them after the March 12, 2015 deadline.SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOPS:The SCC Scholarship Program Office will offer workshops that will provide information on how to apply for scholarshipsoffered at Santiago Canyon College. The workshops cover information on writing a personal statement, requestingrecommendation letter(s) and completing the application.
