ST. NORBERT CATHOLIC CHURCH WWW.STNORBERTCHURCH.ORG2StewardshipChallengeto ChangeAt this me ofthe year it iseasy to seetoday’s Gospelin prac ce.Farmers andgardeners sowed, weeded, fer lized, andwatered, and now begin to see the fruitsof their labor. They sowed more seedthan they actually needed, as nature isgenerous but also wasteful: no one whogrows plants can tell you how many willsurvive and produce seed of their own.The parable of the sower, like all Jesus’parables, stands conven onal wisdom onits head and offers layers of newmeaning. In Jesus’ day, the way ofrighteousness was spelled out in theJewish scriptures. The person who livedas a pious Jew, following the Law ofMoses, could be assured of manyblessings. Yet, as Jesus o endemonstrated, following the rules andliving the life are not the same thing. Whydoes the seed of the word not bear fruitin everyone who hears it? Jesus quotesthe prophet Isaiah, who describes peopleas dull of hearing with their eyes shut.Jesus explains this as a form of selfprotec on. If people really hear and reallysee, they might have to change. We mayhear this Gospel with a hint ofcomplacency. It is possible to hear thisparable and enjoy it as a simple tale. A erall, we understand it, and we are not likethe rest. But is this true? Do we reallyhear the word? Are we really seeking itsmeaning for us? Do we allow it to takeroot in the good soil in our lives, or do wepush it to the edges or let it get chokedout by other priori es? Disciples are theones who water and nurture it, and askJesus to help them produce abundantfruit.Copyright 2010, World Library Publica ons.All rights reserved.Holy Family AdoptionServicesHoly Family Services Adop on & FosterCare (HFS) is an accredited Californiastate-licensed, nondenomina onal, nonprofit adop on and foster careagency established in 1949. I was born in Mexico City 33 years ago; for the last 14years I have lived in California. In Mexico I went through several family and economicdifficul es that encouraged me to immigrate to the United States. My sister, who is amember of this community and a woman of great faith, helped me in many ways. I tookmy first English class at St. Norbert on Saturdays with my teacher Isabel being a specialinspira on to me. My sister helped as an assistant for this English class. My beginnings inthe labor area in this country began as a construc on assistant, in an agency of changeand shipments, fast food restaurants, and department stores. I felt discrimina on, wasmistreated, excluded, and called a "wet back.” But through my faith I never turn awayfrom helping others. That said, for the last six years I have volunteered at night inhospitals. Along with the work and volunteer service I began to study to get my diplomafrom high school, which I received in a charter school in Santa Ana. I con nued my studiesat Los Angeles City College and now I am studying Theology at Loyola MarymountUniversity in Los Angeles. Also, I am my own boss as I have a small house cleaningcompany. I am a Norber no. I have my community in my heart and mind. I am currentlythe coordinator of the Hospitality Ministry and you can see me without fail on Sundays atseven o'clock Mass. Everything I have achieved in this country helps me to fulfill mydreams. I am grateful to God and thankful to all who have helped especially my sistersand brothers. God bless America!Confirmation Host Homes NeededYouth Ministry is seeking Host Homes for our Confirma on Forma on classes. Copyright 2010, World Library Publica ons.All rights reserved.
