He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us eachday our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test."And he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves ofbread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,' and he says in reply from within,'Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.'I tell you, if he does not get up to give the visitor the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needsbecause of his persistence."And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand hisson a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to givegood gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"Old St. Joseph’s is equipped with an audio hearing loop. We are drawn to some persons, choices, habits, attitudesand the like, and resistant to others. When we are so drawn, do they bring us consolation (an increase offaith, a closer relationship with Christ) or desolation (a dimming of the light of Christ, a narrowing of ourheart’s generosity)? This, rather than merely doing what “feels good” and avoiding what “feelsunappealing,” becomes the touchstone of our choices and decisions.OSJ PRAYER LISTIn your prayers, please remember our sick and homebound brothers and sisters and our ministry atPennsylvania Hospital.Anne Bulik, Tom Montgomery, Ursula Reed, Martin Wojcik, Anthony Pelle, John McKeown Jr, Flo Marianni,George Bernato, Beckett Quinn, Susan & Ray Friend, Roberta Parker, Paul Clement, Frances Banchi, Doug Raymond,Barbara Paul, Anna Krachman, Margaret Incerto, Maggie G., Barbara Epting, Sharon Winge, Stefania Crum, Eleanor Bravo,Allen May, Anthony Pelle Jr, Betty Farris Pfeiffer, Ann Crowther, Jane Crowther, Mary Kay Crowther,Fr. Ciszek, S.J., is ourselection for the One Book, One Parish programthis year. In this honest, compelling account, Fr.Ciszek takes us to the Soviet prisons and Siberianlabor camps where he experienced ations during his 23-year detention. Hedescribes how he survived the darkness andtemptations to despair by deepening his prayerlife applying the principles of Ignatian Spiritualityto his real-live situation. The message of this bookis crucial to us in 2022 as we experience so manychallenges in our country and the world. Fr.Ciszek’s powerful message can help to lead usthrough the personal and societal challenges ofour times. It is, in the end, a triumphant story offaith.
