DPH RACIAL EQUITY ACTION PLAN (REAP) – 2021In accordance with the REAP “The Health Commission will consider a resolution toacknowledge that DPH buildings, programs, and activitiessit on the ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlonepeoples, who are the original inhabitants of the SanFrancisco Peninsula.”5

RESOLUTION COMPONENTS Acknowledgement of the Ramaytush Ohlone and Yelamu as original peoples of the SFPeninsula and City and County of SF, respectively. The City and County of SF is founded on their unceded territory. The Ramaytush Ohlone and the Association of the Ramaytush Ohlone (ARO) are animportant and active community that contributes to the richness of the SF Bay Arearegion. The American Indian community and their views and needs are not consistentlyreflected or included in government planning and discussions. A LandAcknowledgement statement is a step in cultivating a meaningful relationship with thecommunity. In 2021, DPH will implement a policy of reading the Land Acknowledgement statementat all Health Commission and public meetings subject to the Sunshine Ordinance.7

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT STATEMENT “The San Francisco Health Commission (Or San Francisco Department of PublicHealth) acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of theRamaytush (rah-my-toosh) Ohlone (O-lon-ee) who are the original inhabitants ofthe San Francisco Peninsula. As the Indigenous stewards of this land, and inaccordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost,nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for allpeoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that webenefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay ourrespects by acknowledging the Ancestors, Elders, and Relatives of the RamaytushOhlone community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples.”8
