How Is CareLink Monitoring for PacemakersDifferent than Transtelephonic Monitoring (TTM)?Many people with pacemakers send heart informationto their clinic using transtelephonic monitoring (TTM),a technology that has existed since the 1970s. TTMprovides a snapshot of what’s happening with yourheart while you’re on the phone with the TTM receiver. The CareLink Monitor sends data stored in your heartdevice, comparable to the information obtained fromyour heart device during an office visit. This includesinformation such as battery longevity and past heartrhythm episodes. The CareLink Monitor works differently than TTM. The CareLink Monitor is plugged directly into atelephone line. There’s no need to attach the phonereceiver to the monitor. No nurse or technician is on the line with youwhen you send information using your CareLinkMonitor. Remember you should only send informationwhen your clinic tells you to. Device information can be sent any time of day usingyour CareLink Monitor. Follow your clinic’s instructionson when to send your information. The CareLink Monitor uses a mouse-like antennainstead of electrodes or magnets to gather information. No wrist electrodes are needed.Pacemaker Patient Appreciates ConvenienceEmmett Joyce, an 83-yearold retired dairy farmer, lovestraveling and flying smallairplanes with a flight instructor.CareLink Monitoring gives himmore time to enjoy the activitieshe loves – instead of driving 200miles to his clinic.Emmett finds the CareLinkMonitor easy to use. “It takesjust a few minutes, and I don’tneed any help. Now I only visitmy doctor once a year, insteadof four times.”Emmett JoyceGreen Bay, Wisconsin
