2021 A N N U A L M E E T I N G2021 ANNUAL MEETINGSPEAKERSAs the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural and Regional Affairs at theUniversity of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM), SuzanneAllen works broadly across academic affairs and regional affairs toenhance the excellence of medical education for the UWSOM andthe five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana andIdaho) region. WWAMI started in 1971 and is accredited through theUniversity of Washington School of Medicine and provides publicallysupported medical education for citizens of the participating states.WWAMI students complete the classroom phase of the curriculum intheir home state and then their required and elective clinicalrotations may be completed at locations across the five state region.Suzanne Allen, MDIn addition to serving as the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural andRegional Affairs, Dr. Allen holds a Clinical Professor faculty positionwithin the Department of Family Medicine at the University ofWashington School of Medicine. Dr. Allen is an attending physicianat the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho and an active physicianin the Department of Family Medicine at Saint Alphonsus RegionalMedical Center and Saint Luke’s Medical Center located in Boise,Idaho. Dr. Allen is committed to medical education and rural healthcare.Dr. Arzubi is CEO of and co-founded Frontier Psychiatry in 2019 tointroduce an accelerated, more aggressive response to Montana’sgrowing mental health crisis. He is an Assistant Clinical Professorat the Yale Child Study where he supervises child and adolescentpsychiatry fellows remotely. Dr. Arzubi completed medical school,general psychiatry residency, and child psychiatry fellowship at theYale School of Medicine. He moved to Montana in 2013 to join theBillings Clinic, where he served as Chair of Psychiatry from 2014 to2019. During that time he led the creation of Montana’s first psychiatry residency training program and the launch of Montana’s firstEmPATH Unit, a service dedicated to providing timely care to individuals in crisis.Eric Arzubi, MDIn 2020, the Montana Medical Association presented Dr. Arzubi withone of its top physician awards, the Doctor Jack McMahon Serviceto Montana Physicians Award, for his contributions. Dr. Arzubi iscurrently on the board of directors of Prevent Child Abuse Montanaand he is on the Scientific Advisory Council of Bring Change To Mind.He has proudly served as President of the Big Sky Regional Councilof Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and as a board member of theSchool-Based Health Alliance. Dr. Arzubi is board certified in generalpsychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry.

She is currently the Acting State Medical Officer and theMedical Director at the Montana Department of Labor & Industrysince October 2018.Margaret K.Cook-Shimanek, MDSonja Clausen, MS,PharmD, BCPSDon Grewell, DOSonja Clausen is currently practicing as a Clinical PharmacistPractioner at Bozeman Health Primary Care clinics in Bozeman, MT.Sonja obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry in2010, then obtained her Master’s degree in Toxicology duringpharmacy school. She obtained her PharmD at the University ofMontana in 2017, then completed a 1 year residency at BozemanHealth Deaconess Hospital in 2018. After completion of herresidency, Sonja started working full time within Bozeman Healthprimary care clinics. She obtained her board certification inpharmacotherapy in 2019 as well as her health coach certificationfrom the National Society of Health Coaches in 2020. She was honoredto receive the award of “Distinguished Young Pharmacist” by theMontana Pharmacy Association in 2020. During her time working inPrimary Care at Bozeman Health, she has implemented aninterdisciplinary RN-Pharmacist hypertension clinic that hassignificantly increased patient access for HTN treatment, improvedoutcomes, and thoroughly integrated clinical pharmacists into thetreatment of hypertension.Dr. Grewell is a Family Medicine physician practicing at Billings Clinic,in Billings, Montana. Dr. Grewell served in the Army as a warrant officeand helicopter pilot before attending medical school at the College ofOsteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. He completed his residency at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Dr. Grewellis board certified in Family Medicine. He is past president of theNorthwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation and served on the Boardof Directors from 2013-2018. Dr. Grewell served on the AOA Board ofEthics from 2013-2014, as well as the AOA Board of Delegates from2014-2019, and he has served as Executive Director of the MontanaOsteopathic Medical Association for the last twelve years. Dr. Grewelljoined Billings Clinic in 1996.

Harmon, a retired major general from the U.S. Air Forceand dedicated family medicine specialist for more than 30 yearsin coastal Carolina, is the 176th president of the American MedicalAssociation.Gerald E. Harmon, MD(Greg)Dr. Harmon has been a valued member of the American MedicalAssociation’s Board of Trustees since 2013 and served as Board chairfrom 2017 - 2018. His distinguished record of service in his homestate of South Carolina includes Board chair and president of theSouth Carolina Medical Association. He is also a professor at twoof South Carolina’s medical schools and is a member of the clinicalfaculty for the Tidelands Health Family Medicine residency programwhere he regularly instructs physicians in training.Dr. Harmon is an adviser to the board of trustees for his localcommunity health system and is vice president in amultispecialty physician practice. He has been recognized with theLifetime Achievement Award from his county’s Chamber ofCommerce, and he has served as South Carolina’s secretary for theState Aeronautics Commission.Dr. Harmon ended his decorated, 35-year career in U.S. Air Force withthe rank of major general, serving the nation in the Air ForceReserve, on Active Duty, and in the Air National Guard holdingresponsibilities as chief physician for the National Guard Bureau. Hishonors include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit,and the Humanitarian Service Medal.Ms. Harris is the Director of Operations for Big Sky Care Connect. Shestarted her path to the health information exchange with the Montana Medical Association as the project manager and continued withBSCC in December 2020 when they became their own fully sustainable entity. Ms. Harris was born and raised in Helena, Montana whereshe still resides with her husband. Ms. Harris enjoys spending timewith her two best buds, grandchildren Maverik and Kessler.Cari HarrisDr. Holmes has been the Hospice Medical Director at CentralMontana Medical Center since 1998 and serves as the President atthe Montana Osteopathic Medical Association. She earned her DOat Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996, becameBoard Certified in Family Practice in 1997. She was in privatepractice with Lewistown Family Wellness Center from 1991 to 2017.Cathy Holmes, DODr. Holmes grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania and is married toBil Holmes, DO. They have three grown daughters, and havepracticed medicine together since 1986. Cathy feels that workingwith the hospice team has been one of the most rewarding parts ofher career.

2021 A N N U A L M E E T I N GGregory S Holzman,MD, MPH (Greg)Dr. Holzman currently serves as Chair of the Montana MedicalAssociations COVID Workgroup. He recently served as the State ofMontana’s State Medical Officer. Dr. Holzman was the Director of theHealthy Campus Initiative at Michigan State University (MSU). Dr.Holzman also saw patient’s with the College of Human Medicine’sFamily Medicine Department and worked as the Associate Chair ofPreventive Medicine within the Family Medicine Department. Duringhis career, he has worked on various public health and healthrelated policy issues from smoke-free legislation to funding for astate-wide trauma system. He has special interests in socialdeterminants of health, health promotion and disease prevention,elimination of health disparities and building better integration between clinical medicine, public health, and community-based organizations.Dr. Holzman received his medical degree from the University of FloridaCollege of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine residency atCarolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He completed his Preventative Medicine Residency at the Central Maine Medical Center’s FamilyPractice Residency Program.Demaree K. MichelauDemarée K. Michelau is the president of the Western InterstateCommission for Higher Education (WICHE). Located in Boulder, CO,WICHE is a regional interstate compact that partners with states,territories, and postsecondary institutions to share knowledge, createresources, and develop innovative solutions that address some of oursociety’s most pressing needs. From promoting high-quality, affordablepostsecondary education to helping states get the most from theirtechnology investments and addressing behavioral health challenges,WICHE improves lives across the West through innovation,cooperation, resource sharing, and sound public policy. As WICHE’spresident, Dr. Michelau serves as the chief executive officer of theorganization and at the pleasure of the 48-member,gubernatorially-appointed WICHE commission.Prior to her role as WICHE’s president, Dr. Michelau was WICHE’s vicepresident of policy analysis and research, a role in which shemanaged WICHE’s Policy Analysis and Research unit and oversawexternally-funded projects related to projections of high schoolgraduates, closing postsecondary attainment gaps, and thedevelopment of a multistate longitudinal data exchange. The authorof numerous reports and policy briefs, she has experience in a varietyof higher education policy issues, including those related to equity andattainment, strategic planning, adult learners, articulation and transfer,accelerated learning options, college affordability, workforce linkages,and K-16 reform. She currently serves on the board of directors for theConsortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration(CONAHEC) and the National Council for State AuthorizationReciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). Previously, she held positions withthe National Conference of State Legislatures and with formerColorado Congressman David Skaggs. Michelau received her bachelor’sdegree in public law from Northern Illinois University and her master’sdegree and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Colorado atBoulder.

2021 A N N U A L M E E T I N GKailyn Mock, MHAVirginia (Ginny)Mohl, MD, PhDKailyn serves as the Director of the Montana Office of Rural Healthand Area Health Education Center. Kailyn is Montana StateUniversity alumna, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Health andHuman Performance and a Master of Health Administration and hasbeen with MORH/AHEC for the past 10 years. Kailyn serves as theco-lead for Montana’s statewide Nursing Action Coalition, is theImmediate Past President of the Montana American College ofHealthcare Executives (ACHE) Chapter, and participates onmultiple statewide boards and committees including the StateHealth Improvement Plan, Montana Graduate Medical EducationCouncil, and the WWAMI Advisory Committee. In her free time, Kailynenjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and goldenretriever, traveling our beautiful state, and watching college football.Dr. Virginia Mohl is Designated Institutional Official (DIO) andMedical Director at Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana, with primaryaccountability for Medical Education including Graduate MedicalEducation, Undergraduate Medical Education and ContinuingMedical Education. Her purpose is to improve the health of thecommunity and the region by creating standards of excellence inmedical education, research, and clinical care. She is one of BillingsClinic’s members on the Board of Directors for the Montana FamilyMedicine Residency. Dr. Mohl served as Chief of Regional Medicinefor seven years; accountable for six rural clinics in Montana andWyoming, helping two of those clinics integrate with their localCritical Access Hospitals. She received her BS from Montana StateUniversity, and her PhD in Genetics and Cell Biology fromWashington State University before attending Medical School atBaylor College of Medicine. Prior to stepping into her role asDivision Chief, Dr. Mohl practiced for 10 years in Red Lodge,Montana, providing maternity care, inpatient and emergencycoverage in addition to her outpatient clinical practice. A Fellowof the American College of Family Medicine, Dr. Mohl taught at theFamily Practice Residency in Casper, Wyoming, where she alsocompleted her Residency.Ms. Niemann is the Health Officer and Department Director for Lewisand Clark Public Health since 2018. She’s been in public health for15 years total with time spent at the Montana Department ofPublic Health and Human Services as the Suicide PreventionCoordinator, the Helena School District as the Youth ConnectionsDirector, and my previous position at Lewis and Clark Public Healthas the Community Health Promotion Division Administrator. Ms.Niemann serves on the Association of Montana Public HealthOfficials Executive Board as well as on the board of the newlycreated Confluence Public Health Alliance.Drenda Niemann, MPA, CPH

Orlowski, MD, MACP, focuses on theinterface between the health care delivery system and academicmedicine, especially regarding how academic medical centers canleverage their expertise in research and innovation to supportemerging reforms. She leads several AAMC groups, such as the Councilof Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, which represents theinterests of approximately 400 major teaching hospitals and healthsystems, including 64 Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers.Janis M. Orlowski, MD, MACPDr. Orlowski joined the AAMC after serving as the chief operatingofficer and chief medical officer of MedStar Washington HospitalCenter in Washington, D.C. From 2004 to 2013, she oversaw thecenter’s medical staff, clinical care, quality, patient safety, medical risk,perioperative services, ambulatory care, and medical educationprograms.Prior to MedStar Washington, Dr. Orlowski served as associate vicepresident and executive dean of Rush Medical College of RushUniversity Medical Center in Chicago. She earned her bachelor’s degreein biomedical engineering from Marquette University and her medicaldegree from the Medical College of Wisconsin.Dr. Elizabeth Palmarozzi is the Founding Dean at Touro College ofOsteopathic Medicine in Montana. A Texas native, she has attended theTexas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of NorthernTexas Research Science Center in Fort Worth. She has served asprofessor of family medicine at the University of Texas SouthwesternMedical Center in Dallas.She joined the ACOFP in 1981 and serves on the ACOFP Constitutionand Bylaws Committee, Resolutions Review Committee and Women’sHealth and Leadership Committee. She is also a past president of theTexas Society of the ACOFP.Elizabeth Palmarozzi,DO, FACOFPDr. David Park is the Vice President and Founding Dean of the RockyVista University – Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior tojoining RVUCOM, he served in various medical education capacitiesduring the ten years he lived in Las Vegas. Dr. Park was the Chair forthe Department of Primary Care and Assistant Dean for GME at TouroUniversity of Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also servedas the Chief Academic Officer for the TUMEC OsteopathicPostdoctoral Training Institution. Dr. Park was the founding ProgramDirector of the Family Medicine Residency at Valley Hospital MedicalCenter. For ACOFP, he was Program Chair for the Spring 2010 and Fall2013 conventions in Las Vegas.David J. Park, DO, FAAFP,FACOFPDr. Park has traveled internationally to promote and deliverosteopathic primary care with the International Primary CareEducational Alliance and DOCARE International.

She has worked with HIE’s across thecountry in implementing solutions to improve communication andcollaboration between multidisciplinary teams.Jeanette Polaschek, RNSarah Potts, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and Director ofBehavioral Health at Partnership Health Center in Missoula,Montana. She graduated with her Ph.D. in Clinical/CounselingPsychology from Utah State University. She completed herresidency and fellowship at the Boys Town Center for BehavioralHealth in Omaha, Nebraska, where she specialized in behavioralpediatrics and integrated care. She provides pediatric behavioralscience training for the Family Medicine Residency of WesternMontana. She is an adjunct professor and clinical training faculty inthe Department of Psychology at the University of Montana.Sarah Potts, PhD.Duane Preshinger currently serves as the Senior Vice President forthe Montana Hospital Association (MHA) leading the MHA Advocacyteam. Prior to being employed by MHA, Duane was employed by theState of Montana for over 27 years. He has over 20 years ofhealth care experience and was the Administrator for the HealthResources Division and managed the Medicaid primary careprograms and also the CHIP program. He also served as theAdministrator of Health Care and Benefits Division for the Stateof Montana and was responsible for administration of Montana’slargest self-funded health plan, with over 31,000 members. Duanegraduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration fromthe University of Redlands.Duane Preshinger

He is NRHAs Chief Operating Officer.He was a rural hospital administrator for more than 21 years and hasserved on the board of the National Rural Health Association and theregional policy board of the American Hospital Association.Brock specializes in rural health system development that encompasses population health and the varied payment programs moving ruralproviders into value based purchasing models. He’s a member of theNational Quality Forum’s Measures Application Partnership (MAP) Hospital and Rural Health Workgroup and serves on the Board of Directorsof Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).Brock is the 2015 recipient of the Calico Quality Leadership Award ofthe National Rural Health Resource Center and received the AmericanSociety of Healthcare Pharmacists (ASHP) Board of Directors’ Award ofHonor for 2018.Brock earned a master of public health degree in health administration from the University of Oklahoma and is a fellow in the AmericanCollege of Healthcare Executives.Dr. Stenger is the Director of the Family Medicine Residency of WesternMontana (FMRWM) and also Vice-Chair of the Montana Graduate Medical Education Council. He has been on faculty at FMRWM since 2015.Dr. Stenger attended Johns Hopkins University for medical school andcompleted residency in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine atOregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR. He is a nativeof Missoula.Robert Stenger, MD, MPHMichael Temporal, MDDr. Temporal, President of the Montana Academy of Family Physicians,was born in the Philippines and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Hegraduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He completedhis residency in Family Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital/UCSF, serving an additional year as Chief Resident for 39 residents,then completed a 2-year geriatric fellowship at UCLA. He has spentmost of his career in academic family medicine and geriatrics. Hereturned to Kansas City in 1993 to work at the UMKC FP Residency. Hewas part of the medical school core faculty and evaluation council andwas elected as junior faculty as representative to the hospital/medicalschool executive committee. In 1998 he moved to Saint LouisUniversity SOM to become the first program director of a combinedmilitary-civilian family medicine residency program in Belleville,Illinois. While remaining faculty, Dr. Temporal assumed graduatedleadership roles within the FQHC from regional medical director toassistant chief medical officer, with primary responsibilities in providermanagement and quality initiatives. Dr. Temporal was promoted tofull clinical professor of family medicine at Saint Louis University in2011. Dr. Temporal moved to Montana in January 2014 and joined theBillings Clinic where he maintains practice at the downtown campus,serves as medical director at 2 area nursing homes and makes regularvisits to a number of assisted living facilities. He became chair of thedepartment of geriatrics in July 2015.
