The rest of the treasure is yours, but the lamp ismine!Yes Jafar.where’d you dig up this bozo?GAZEEMAwk, the lamp—Awk, the lamp--. Jeez Jafar,(Loud rumbling as THE CAVE surprises them byspeaking)Who disturbs my slumber?It is I, Gazeem, a humble thief.CAVEGAZEEMCAVEKnow this. Only one may enter, one whose worth lies far within – a diamond in therough.JAFARWhat are you waiting for? Go on!(JAFAR pushes GAZEEM forward into THE CAVE.Loud rumblings and THE CAVE slams shuttrapping GAZEEM inside; IT burps.)CAVESeek thee out, the diamond in the rough.6

I must find this one. This diamond inthe rough and make him mine!(JAFAR laughs maniacally. IAGO joins in as theyslide out.)(3) ARABIAN NIGHTS – PART 2 (ARABIAN NIGHTS – PART 2)PEDDLERSARABIAN NIGHTSLIKE ARABIAN DAYSMORE OFTEN THAN NOTARE HOTTER THAN HOTIN A LOT OF GOOD WAYSBAKLAVAHe scares me Papa.He scares a lot of us.AKIMZELDAShh! Yes the night holds many secrets and many men have given their lives to seekthem out – especially for this—(SHE pulls the lamp from beneath his cloak.)GAZEEMWhat are you doing? (HE grabs the lamp) That’s not supposed to make itsappearance until the middle of the first act.(ZELDA shrugs with an “OOPS” look on her face.)I guess it’s too late, they’ve already seen it. Do not be fooled by its commonplaceappearance. Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside thatcounts. This is no ordinary lamp! It once changed the course of a young man’s life, ayoung man, who like this lamp, was more than he seemed. A diamond in the rough.(HE gives a knowing laugh, the other PEDDLERSjoin him)7

SHEwaves, they wave back. SHE exits. ALADDINslides in from the other side, along with ABU, hismonkey and a baker. While ABU distracts theBAKER with a dance, ALADDIN steals a loaf ofbread. The BAKER exits none the wiser.)Ah, here comes our illustrious hero now, uh, doing what he does best.ALADDINYou were brilliant Abu. And now we eat, at least for today.ABUJust once Aladdin, I’d like to see you do the dancing. Why do I always have to jumparound like a little ape?ALADDINBecause you are Abu, because you are, now eat.(The BAKER enters with RAZOUL the headguard)Uh-oh!BAKERThere he is.Stop, thief!Run my little monkey friend! There’s the Sultan, ruler ofall he surveys, and anything else that happens to be lying around.AKIM(Moony eyed) And next to him, Princess Jasmine (HE starts to wave at her, but GAZEEM stops him.GAZEEMFool! Do you want to get us killed? And now it appears our great Sultan is about toaddress the crowd.SULTANPeople of Agrabah, my loyal subjects! RAJA shows hisdisapproval and JASMINE the same.)SULTANA very suitable candidate for my daughter’s hand, wouldn’t you agree Jafar?JAFARMost definitely your majesty, but as your most trusted advisor, may I point out toyou, the princess does not look happy.IAGOWell duh! And we all have rules to obey.He has a point.IAGOAKIMAnd our final contestant, Prince Pas Tafazoul!SULTANI wonder if he is related to the Prego RagusSCHEHEREZADEPas traveled from the beautiful Tuscan countryside, enjoys moonlight dinners on theveranda of his castle, he loves white chiffon and terra cotta pots (of course), andopera performed in his very own opera house, where he stars in every production.He is seeking a young energetic woman to share his life and manage his twentyone? Twenty-one!!! – lovely children.(PRINCE PAS TAFAZOUL enters with hisentourage singing a bright Italian aria, ratherhigh, and rather off pitch.
