Fossil Ridge High School NewsletterPage 2From The Desk of Dr. ChaplaincontinuedMark your calendars for September 13th 4:30 – 8:00pm for our first quartervirtual conference. This year we plan to continue virtual events for parent teacher conferenceseach quarter. Prior to each conference event, we will send communicationsthat include sign-up links for a 1:1 video conference appointment. Conferenceappointments are a great chance to connect with teachers, learn about theirprogress, and ask questions. Throughout your student’s high school journeythere may be times when collaborative problem-solving will be needed. Forthese purposes we have developed a resolution process that starts with aconversation between the student and the teacher and progresses fromthere. I have included our resolution process and healthy goals of dialogue toguide the conversations that take place. On another note, our School Accountability Committee (SAC) is looking for 1-2parents who are new to Fossil Ridge to serve on our team. If you areinterested, please email your application to me at jchaplain@psdschools.orgby September 10th. Applications and specifics about the role of the SAC maybe found at the bottom of the “School Administration” page of our website,or at -administration/school-accountabilitycontinued on next page

Fossil Ridge High School NewsletterPage 3From The Desk of Dr. ChaplaincontinuedWe will continue to practice emergency fire and safety drills throughout theyear to help our students know how to respond in the case of an emergency.During fire drills, we ask our staff and students to “stop, look, and listen”before evacuating the building. We also have three safety procedures that wemay practice and teach students about throughout the year. The 3 drills are:SECURE, LOCK DOWN, and HOLD.1. If our building calls a HOLD: Stay in your classrooms. Clear the halls.ex. a student in your wing is having a bad day and we need students to stay intheir room until we have removed or de-escalated this student. What you need to know: This may be specific to just a few rooms so wedo not have to put the entire school on HOLD. We have the capability topage into specific classrooms and keep only those on hold until we haveworked through ask that you keep your classroom on HOLD.2. If our building calls a SECURE: Get inside and lock exterior doorsex. there was an armed robbery at the bank nearby and the robber is drivingSouth on ZieglerWhat you need to know: This is for the entire building and means we cango about business as usual inside but may not let anyone in or out.Students and staff will hear SECURE.continued on next page

Fossil Ridge High School NewsletterPage 4From The Desk of Dr. Chaplaincontinued3. If our building calls a LOCK DOWN: Locks, Lights, Out of Sight.ex. there is a threat inside the buildingWhat you need to know: Your first action in a lockdown situation is to getbehind the nearest, lockable door. During a lock-down drill, staff andstudents in classrooms practice “locks, lights, out-of-sight.” Researchshows that emergency situations can happen before school, during lunch, and during passing periods as well. For this reason, we also ask students toevaluate their situation and be prepared to “run, hide, or fight” ifnecessary. Practicing drills and keeping our school secure is a communityeffort. Please talk with your students at home and remind them not toprop open doors when they leave for lunch, or open doors for students oradults trying to enter the school. In addition, if students are not involvedin activities, or directly supervised by a staff member after school, we askthat remain in the commons.Thank you again for all you do to support our students, teachers, and staff. Inaddition to our monthly newsletter, we provide weekly email updates andperiodic phone calls. Fossil Ridge High School NewsletterPage 13Transcript Request ProcessStudents can begin requesting copies of their official high school transcript viaSchoolPay beginning September 1st. For students requesting transcripts tobe sent directly to colleges/universities, the cost is 3.00 per college/university. That fee covers both an initial and a final transcript. For studentsutilizing the Common Application (aka Common App.) platform to apply tocolleges/universities, the cost is 3.00 and includes an initial, mid-year, andfinal transcript. The fee to upload to the Common Application is 3.00, onetime, regardless of the number of colleges applied to on the platform. When students request a transcript via School Pay, they will be asked if theyare applying directly to a college and the name of the college, or if they areapplying via the Common Application and the name(s) of the colleges. Thereare instances in which a student may apply to different colleges in differentways, e.g. direct and via Common App. For example, if a student applies tothe following colleges: Colorado College (Common Application) Colorado State University (Common Application) Macalester College (Direct Application/Non-Common Application) Grinnell College (Direct Application/Non-Common Application)He/she will pay 3.00 for the Common Application colleges (Colorado College& CSU), and 3.00 each for Macalester, and Grinnell. Thus, the total the student pays in Transcript Request Fees is 9.00. Transcript Requests will beprocessed beginning the first week of September.Aspiring college athletes need to request transcripts for either the NCAA and/or NAIA depending on the designation of the college or university. Studentsmust create profiles on the NCAA and/or NAIA Eligibility Centers before requesting transcripts as FRHS cannot upload transcripts for students with incomplete profiles. Please contact Sarah Switala or Margey Grady with transcript related questions, sswitala@psdschools.orgmgrady@psdschools.org.
