Henry Mintzberg’sphilosophyThe McGill Executive LeadershipExperience (MELE) bears theinfluence of Professor Henry Mintzberg, one of the most prolific and impactfulscholars in management education. At the core of Professor Mintzberg’sphilosophy of management education isthe critical role of reflection: taking timeout of your day to reflect upon what youhave experienced and using thatreflection as an opportunity to learn. We have incorporated his philosophy byintroducing a period of reflection eachday of the program. Every morning, participants are given time to reflect, both individually and as a group, on theprevious day’s discussions. This givesparticipants an opportunity to understandhow to bring to life what they have learned,as leaders within their organizations.“To change someone it isfirst necessary to“unfreeze” his or her basicbeliefs, then “refreeze”around the new ones”Henry MintzbergProfessor Mintzberg is considered by many academics and business leaders to be the world’spremiere authority on management. The recipient of the 2014 CK Prahalad Distinguished ScholarPractitioner Award, he writes prolifically on the topics of management and business strategy withmore than 160 articles, 15 books, and 100,000 citations on Google Scholar.5
