Dear Reader,If you are reading this book, you must be interested in DesignThinking and wondering what it can do to transform your life, both professionally and personally. Through these pages youwill get a glimpse of the whole new enabling world of ‘DesignThinking’.The uniqueness of School of Design Thinking lies in itsapproach, not just to Design Thinking, but more importantly,in its emphasis on preparing the mind before jumping intoDesign Thinking as a problem solving approach. Hencewe emphasize more on Design The Thinking first beforeThinking The Design. Design Thinking isn’t just a science totackle the complexities that each of us grapple with. Rather, itis an unconventional approach to solve complex problems byengaging with people who face the problem. It is more thanjust looking at problems beyond mere data and numbers. It involves factoring in the experiences and emotions ofend users, making it a truly human-centric approach. Thisradically new approach requires a shift in the mindset of theproblem solver making the preparation of the Design Mindan indispensable foundation for the successful applicationof the Design Thinking process. School of Design Thinkingis a unique institution that does not merely teach DesignThinking, but will make you a complete Design Thinker.Welcome to the magical world of Design Thinking. All the best!Arun JainFounder, School of Design Thinking

What Is Design Thinking? For businesses, Design Thinking drivesdeep differentiation. The process ofDesign Thinking involves rigor ofunderstanding requirements - bothstated and unstated, observing andclustering patterns, connecting the dotsand unearthing blind spots.Design Thinking makes the designprocess intellectually stimulating anda joyous collaborative experience, thusgiving more focus on those facing theproblem than the problem itself. Is Design Thinking For You?To Find OutScan QR Code withyour Phone Camerahttp://d-thinking.com

Rigoured by intense group activities, workshops involve the study of stimulating case studies and focused presentations. The audience will use multiple tools and frameworks, such as journey maps, client personas, case studies, presentations, as well as tactile and visual tools to arrive at impactfulsolutions that are both human centric and future focussed. The workshops conducted by the School of Design Thinking are largely residential in nature. This is to enable participants to sleep over unclear thoughts and return the next dayto discuss them. Participants are also taught ways to innovatively start the day with engaging and high-energy activities. The outcome of the entire process is to enable learnersto deep-dive into the design process to solve complex challenges.

Our ApproachDesign Thinking is too often reducedto knowledge and use a set of tools, asif, mastering the use of a chisel wouldmake one a master sculptor! Like anyother set of tools, Design Thinking toolsare easily learned, but the ability to usethem correctly and judiciously calls forthe ‘mind of a designer’. Through stimulating activities, thoughtfully craftedworkshops create an understandingof the need for freedom of the humanmind and the importance of designing themind to learn and achieve efficiency andexcellence. It stresses that ‘Preparing theDesign Mind’ is critical to achieve anddeliver optimal design. It also emphasizesthe need to have an open mind, designedto receive new information and ideas inorder to continue to learn and grow.

The design center has six explorationthrough-enablement zones; and AEDE principles (Absorb - Engage – Discover – Enable)are an integral part of the work flow.Workshop participants are often taken on a tour of the 8012 FinTech Design Center, wherethey are exposed to various Design Thinking models and tools.

ApproachMIND FIRST & HOLISTICTo ols t o fa c ilit at e g ro u p l e ar n i n g & p re s entati onFour-pronged StrategyA four-pronged strategy enables participants toeffectively adopt the culture of Design Thinking. The design mind, design space, design frameworkand design process are the four tightly-integratedaspects that help create value by enabling problemsolvers to arrive at future-focussed solutions.

The Design MindThe Design SpaceTransformation of the thought processis indispensable before understandingthe practical application of DesignThinking. Transformation from themindset of an ‘order taker’ to that ofan ‘agenda setter’ needs conditioning. The School of Design Thinking callsthis the preparation of the DesignMind. This forms the cornerstone ofour approach and makes School ofDesign Thinking stand apart fromother Design Thinking experts. The workplace environment andspace is a crucial factor thatinfluences productivity and output.Spatial elements that help crosscollaboration and cross-pollination areleveraged during workshops. Inspiredby this, participants have often feltthe need to utilize spatial elementsat their regular workplaces. School ofDesign Thinking emphasises that the‘physics of space is equally importantas the chemistry between colleagues’.The Design ProcessThe Design FrameworkThe Design Process is an approachfor breaking down a large projectinto manageable chunks. The Schoolof Design Thinking takes inspirationfrom globally renowned design toolssupplemented with indigenouslycrafted tools to make Design Thinkingsuccessful in practical application. The patented five-step DesignThinking process unites the designtools. In fact, the special and exclusive‘Design Toolkit’ provides participantswith a unique learning experience. The right mindset, design toolsand process help problem solversgenerate out-of-box ideas. Yet,problem solvers need the supportof multiple stakeholders to make asolution successful. Solutions needsustainable models that will alignall the stakeholders. These modelsare called ‘design frameworks’.The workshops lay a substantialemphasis on mapping stakeholderswho will bind the solution into asustainable framework.
