Residents, Staff and FamiliesTreated With Appreciation When Sunnyside says ‘thank you’, it’s expressed with an enormous amount of sinceregratitude. This year was no exception. The fourth annual Sunnyside Appreciation Eventprovided an opportunity to renew our sentiments and share our appreciation to ourresidents, their families, our staff, and their families who make Sunnyside a welcomingcommunity. Children and the young at heart took part in fun festivities that includedface painting, a variety of bounce houses, and competitive games of corn hole. Ofcourse, when it comes to food, Sunnyside excels. This year, everyone enjoyed a variety ofdelicious dining fare from artisan-fired pizza to smoked barbecue chicken and ribs, tastypicnic sides, and an abundance of ice cream treats and decadent cookies. The gatheringresulted in many happy faces and the creation of new memories with family and friends.Wayne and Pat KindtDebbie Bruneau with Barbie Keyser2 Summer 2019THEVillagerMaila Aylsworth and Mackenzie Stutzman

RelationshipsBy Chaplain Jarvis HochstedlerThe Chapel at Sunnyside Village.Relationships Aren’t they fun?!I recently made a visit to mydaughter’s house in Arkansas tospend time with her family andespecially our grandson, Henry. Itwas his fifth birthday. It cost usmoney, time and effort to make thetrip. Was it worth it? To me that’sa dumb question absolutely! It’sworth everything and more. It’sabout tending familial relationshipsthat have eternal implications. This past year I have observedthree different relationship systemsexperiencing death and trauma. One system had experiencedsome serious injury along the way.Through the initiative of parentsand children, forgiveness ruled theday and in the end the gospel storywas passed to the next generation. The second system experiencedpain in a different way. Death andphysical trauma came to one of theparent’s early on. Because of thefaith and foundation laid by theparent’s, the system stood firm and,at the death of the second parent, many years later, the gospel waspassed to the next generation. The third system made wealth, and everything involved in gettingit, the priority of family system. When physical trauma struck theleader, despair became the orderof the day. Instead of the systemrallying around the injured party itexploded leaving everyone aloneand hurt.My encouragement to youthis summer is to mind yourrelationships. Tend to them asyou would a garden and they willyield a bountiful harvest of loveand companionship.THEVillagerSummer 2019 9
