Letter from the DirectorDear Colleagues:The Counseling Center is proud to playa role in Student Affairs’ goal to providethe best possible Illinois experience forthe students that we serve. To supportour students, we consistently askourselves how we can improve upon thetreatment we provide and the outreachprogramming we offer.1Emerging adulthood is a very exciting but often challengingtime for our students. Our mission statement guides how weapproach our interactions with our students as we work withthem to ensure they have the resources and tools they needto be their best psychologically, academically, and socially.It is a testament to the university and the division of StudentAffairs that we have so many like-minded individuals and unitsto collaborate with to ensure our students’ lives are enrichedfrom their time at Illinois.Our Strategic Plan for 2014-2017 highlights how we plan tocarry out Student Affairs’ larger goals within the CounselingCenter. For each goal, we have developed metrics that willallow us to determine our progress toward reaching our goals.Thank you to the Student Affairs Strategic Plan SteeringCommittee for providing a useful framework for setting ourgoals, and thanks to the Counseling Center staff who assistedin the development of our initiatives and carefully thoughtthrough our metrics for determining our success.Sincerely,Carla J. Mission and Vision2MissionThe Counseling Center is committed to providing a broadrange of high quality, innovative, and ethical servicesthat address the psychological, educational, social, anddevelopmental needs of University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign students. We also actively contribute tothe campus’ broader academic mission by training anddeveloping students and professionals, helping build amulticultural learning community, and providing leadershipin forming collaborative partnerships among Student Affairs,Academic Affairs, the Graduate College, and AdministrativeAffairs units.VisionThe Counseling Center enhances the overall well-being ofstudents at the University of Illinois.
