In aneffort to go green and be cost conscious, we are printing and mailingthe Beachcomber on a bi-monthly basis. In between, the chapter willpublish a supplemental newsletter to keep you up to date with eventsand more. The same information will be disseminated; however,we will minimize our big mailings. 2011 National Disabled VeteransWinter Sports ClinicBy: Alisa Curtis RT InternThe National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic celebrated its 25th year promoting rehabilitation byinstructing nearly 350 Veterans with disabilities in adaptive downhill and cross-country skiing, and introducingthem to a number of other adaptive recreational activities and sports. 14 participants from the San Diego areaattended the clinic this past week in Snowmass Village, Colorado, some seeing snow for the first time. The clinicwas highlighted with Vice President Joe Biden speaking at the opening ceremony, a variety of evening concertsincluding Chubby Checker performing The Twist, and The Taste of Snowmass where participants got to enjoygreat local food. Throughout the week Veterans enjoyed the nearly two feet of fresh snow on the slopes through skilessons, skiing with friends, and testing their skillswith a race at the end of the week. Off the mountainVeterans were given the opportunity to participatein snowmobiling, rock climbing, scuba diving,fly-fishing, curling, and sled hockey as well as tripsto Aspen and Glenwood Hot Springs for the day.
