EXECUTIVE NEWSMessage from the PresidentDear Members,First of all, I want to thank the 2021-2022 BNSMEBoard of Directors for their hard work and dedication toWestern NY’s oldest sales and marketing organization.I am in awe of the commitment that each and everyone of them has made toward making this communitystronger, more informed, and more connected.I am proud to turn “the gavel” over to my friend andcolleague, Lindsey Zajac. She will undoubtedly leadwith grace and wisdom.A Publication of the Buffalo NiagaraSales & Marketing ExecutivesP.O. Box 1185, Orchard Park, NY 14127bnsme.org 716.662.2279I would also like to give special thanks, once again, toour Executive Director, Jeanne Hellert. Jeanne is thegold standard for leadership in professional organizations like BNSME. Everythingyou see, hear, eat, drink, read, and take with you from a BNSME event has some pieceof Jeanne in it. We are lucky to have her as part of the WNY business community andour organization. As this is my last written communication to the BNSME membership, I want to makesure that I am on the record with my thoughts about the Western NY Community.Buffalo is my home. I have lived my entire life as a Buffalonian. I end emails with“Go Bills”. I go to The Broadway Market at Easter. I wear shorts in November. I canpronounce Scajaquada. I only dip my wings in blue cheese. I also know who MaryTalbert was. I know about The Niagara Movement which led to the modern dayNAACP. I know about John Young. I know about Juneteenth. I know that Buffalo’shistory is Black history.I still have a lot to learn.I can never expect to fully understand the way it must feel to be a person of color inAmerica right now. I’ve never had to have “the talk”. I don’t know how it feels to behated, judged, and condemned because of the color of my skin.My heart breaks for Buffalo this week. I’ve cried my share of tears and shouted my shareof curses. How is this type of hate still a thing? How does anyone believe that the worldcould ever be better without someone in it because they look different? It’s so hard togrieve without understanding why. It’s no longer okay just to “talk proud” about Buffalo. We need to actively protectthe community and culture that built Buffalo. African American culture deservesprotection, respect, and celebration in every community around Western NY.I challenge each of you reading this to do something to educate yourself on BlackHistory, then tell someone what you learned. Encourage your colleagues and family todo the same. I challenge you to publicly condemn racism and speak out against hatefulrhetoric. Tell everyone who will listenthat YOU DO NOT ACCEPTanything other than tolerance, respect, and love. Support minority ownedbusinesses. Contact me if you need alist.I wish all the victims, their families, their friends, the survivors, and anyheart touched by this tragedy peace, prosperity, clarity, and wisdom.I love and appreciate you all,Matt with awards gala chair, Jill Pawlik of Jill PawlikStrategic MarketingTABLE OFCONTENTSOn the Cover: Join us June 10th atDiamond Hawk Golf Course for the27th Annual Golf Outing to benefitJunior Achievement of WNY.Page 2Calendar of Events/BNSME CommitteesPage 3President’s MessagePage 427th Annual Golf OutingPage 6BNSME HappeningsPage 10Spotlight on MembershipPage 11Meet Our NewBoard of DirectorsMatt Carlucci Director of SalesBuffalo Lodging Associates, LLC3

A Message FromLaurie MahoneyPresident of Junior Achievement of Western New YorkTwelve years ago, when I came to Junior Achievement of WNY, I was introduced to theBuffalo Niagara Sales & Marketing Executives group. The partnership between JAWNY &BNSME, that supported the annual golf tournament, had existed for a long time and was a“well-oiled machine”. Not being particularly well-versed in running a golf tournament, I wasgrateful for this existing partnership and BNSME’s commitment to JAWNY.While the golf tournament was the catalyst for our partnership, over the years, our organizationshave become more closely entwined. Today, Lisa Roy, JAWNY Sr. Development Manager, sits on the BNSME’s Board of Directors. Many BNSME members now volunteer their timedelivering JA Learning Experiences throughout schools in our communities. When I thinkabout the many organizations JAWNY is and has been associated with, our relationship withBNSME stands out as a partnership that is truly mutually beneficial to both organizations, aswell as the communities we work and live in.As I prepare to retire from JAWNY at the end of June, I do not plan to retire from BNSME. Itell everyone that BNSME is an exceptional group with excellent programming and committedmembers, who have become friends.Laurie (left) with long time friend and golf volunteer Jane WarfiledLaurie with Jim Gannon, Scheid Architectural, the late (great) Dan Floydand Peter Ronca of DataSure24Proud to support Junior Achievement of Western New York.5
