Data sheetHPE VM ExplorerSimple, cost-effective VMware protectionHPE VM Explorer is a low-cost, easy-to-use and reliablebackup solution offering fast VM and granular restore, replication, and verification of VMware vSphere andMicrosoft Hyper-V environments.Enterprise value. SMB price.Centrally manage backup and replicationfor virtual environments: supports bothVMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V,built-in replication, with an intuitive and easyto navigate web interface Protect ESX and ESXi standalone servers,vCenter virtual datacenter, Microsoft Hyper-Vserver as well as a Hyper-V Cluster on alloperating systems supported by VMwareESX/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V server. VMExplorer also supports the free version of ESXi. Replicate any VM to another host (on-premisesor on the cloud) with built-in point-in-timereplication; the VM is registered to thebackup server automatically and can bestarted and accessed on-demand. Throughchange-tracking, VM Explorer replicates anychanges on the new target host keepingvirtual environments in sync and availablefor rapid disaster recovery.Easy to install and operate: quick installationand configuration and easy administrationthrough an easy to navigate web interface Be up and running with VM Explorer inminutes. VM Explorer’s light-weight installercompletes the installation in less than aminute. The configuration requires a fewsimple clicks and within minutes you canstart running your backups and replicationsof your virtual machines. Configure and manage VM Explorer throughan intuitive and easy to use web-basedinterface that supports Active Directoryintegration and multi-user access. Theintegrated job scheduler allows you to performunattended, periodic backups of your virtualinfrastructure. Jobs may also be started usingthe web interface, which maintains a simpleoverview of backups. Filtering and sorting ofthese backups according to your requirementsenables quick restoration with just a few clicks. VM Explorer’s main dashboard provides thehealth and status of the scheduled backuptasks. Comprehensive email reporting providesrelevant information about the backup jobs. These reports can also be viewed at any timethrough your backup history.

Data sheetPage 2Reliable and with enhanced securityfeatures: worry-free data protection withautomated backup verification, encryption, and active directory integration Built-in snapshot integration for EMCScaleIO storage arrays. Snapshots canbe initiated and managed through VMExplorer’s web based interface. The dual verification capability, which checksthe integrity and restorability of VM backupsas well as the file system consistency, givesadministrators peace of mind. The automatedverification process runs test withoutdisrupting the production environment andgenerates reports containing the screenshotimages taken at a custom interval duringthe testing process. Currently this feature isavailable for ESX/ESXi. Dynamic compression and Incrementalbackup and replication with Changed BlockTracking (CBT) makes the VM backup andreplication process fast and efficient. Dynamiccompression of backups improves datatransfer over slow network links (typicallywide-area networks) and saves storage onthe target system. Incremental backup andreplication with Changed Block Tracking(CBT) sends only changed blocks since thelast backup or replication job. Supports AES 256 bit encryption—ahigh standard in security—helps providesecure data backup to any backuptarget—on-premises and cloud. Supports both full and incremental backupsas well as synthetic backups through theconsolidation of full and incrementals. Theintegrity of synthetic backups is maintained;if an incremental backup is mistakenlydeleted or gets corrupted, VM Explorerautomatically schedules a full replication.Fast and efficient backup: server-to-server fastcopy, snapshot integration, dynamic compression, and Changed Block Tracking (CBT) support Copies files and backups at full speed directlybetween ESX, ESXi, Hyper-V, Linux andFreeBSD servers. Throughput is limited onlyby the available network bandwidth and thedisk speed of the source and target systems.Advanced VM recovery options: includesVM restore, VM power on directly from thebackup and restore through vMotion, andgranular file-level restore Instant Virtual Machine Recovery (IVMR)technology allows VMs to be recovered ina matter of seconds directly from backups, reducing unplanned downtime and improvingservice availability. Single-click restore movesVMs to production through vMotion. Granular file-level recovery enables rapidrestore of single files and folders directlyfrom any backup—full as well as incrementalbackup on-premises or on the cloud—without restoring the full backup.

Native cloudintegration enables cost-effective disasterrecovery and single item recovery for yourcontinuously growing virtual environment. Backups can be stored on a wide-variety ofdisk based targets: direct attached storage, network attached storage (NAS), StorageArea Network (SAN), ESX/vSphere, Windows,Linux and FreeBSD based storage platforms, and HPE StoreOnce backup appliances (NASand VTL interfaces). Tape support includes both locally oriSCSI attached to the VM Explorer server.Split-tape backup enables efficient use oftape media and saves cost of storage. Automated storage tiering enables seamlessmovement of backup sets between disk, tape, and cloud allowing you to efficientlyand cost-effectively utilize different availablestorage tiers and meet varying RTO(Recovery Time Objective) needs.Cost-effective with simple to understandlicensing: affordable with multipleeditions—choose the one that’s right foryour environment and easily upgrade as yougrow your environment VM Explorer is designed and priced forSMBs.
