Criminals, from thieves to vandals to active shooters, can walkinto many facilities through unlocked front doors, loading bays, or employee entrances. Once inside, there is often nothing more to stop them from entering cash or computer rooms, executive offices, and equipment storage areas. 2november 2014 THE MAINTENANCE BEACONThankfulness42nd annual ncpsma easternSo many things in life we take for granted. Those of us whowake up healthy each morning have that to be thankful for. Many are suffering. If we have food in our cabinets and pantry we are wealthy, as many don’t know where their nextmeal will come from. It so easy to get caught up in the troubles of this life and forget to be thankful. I am certainly guilty. We recently had revival at our church and one statement thepastor made has stuck with me. He said, “You never get tiredof hearing Thank You.” We get tired of those who complainabout everything. We try to avoid them as much as possible. We all hear complaints more often than we’d like. But asthe pastor said, we never really get tired of hearing ThankYou. We teach our children to always say thank you, buthow many times do we fail to say thank you ourselves. Ronalways thanks me for the meals I prepare for him. I never gettired of hearing his expression of gratitude.Recently Ron was given an old set of lockers. He has neverbeen one to turn down “free stuff” but he has been trying really hard to get rid of some of his “stuff.” He almost turneddown the gift, but then he thought how much our daughterRheannon would like them. She’s an antique lover like herfather. So we drove to Charlotte and picked them up. Theyhad been stored in an opened ended shed so they werepretty dirty. We hoped the ride home on the back of the truckwould blow some of the dust and dirt off. I’m sure it helped, but it was still very dirty when we delivered it to her houselate in the day. She was thrilled with it and thanked us profusely. We put it in their garage and she went right to work onit after we left, sweeping and cleaning. She sent me a pictureby text later that night which showed the improvement andagain said thank you and how much she liked it. Later on inthe week she sent another picture of the clean cage lockersnow standing proudly in her den. She also sent a text thanking us again and telling us how much she loved it. It was ajoy to receive each thank you. We didn’t get tired of hearingthem and I’m sure we won’t in the future. Each year in November, when we celebrate “Thanksgiving.”This year lets make an extra effort to be thankful. Thankful to God for all He has given us, thankful to our family, our friends and even strangers as the opportunity arises. Athankful heart is a “light” heart. Having a thankful attitudecan ease our burdens.RoxieAfterBeforeconvention workshopPatrick FielExhibitor VisitationExhibitor Visitationcontinued from page 1Services; Allegion; Argus Agents, Inc.; Anderson Sanitary Maintenance Products; ASSA/Abloy; Atlantic Coastal Supply, Inc.; BIRS, Inc.; Bradford Sales; Brame Specialty Company; Brantley Electronics; Brock ContractServices; CSS Boiler & Mechanical Supply; C. I was told this was a veryinformative class and one that should prove beneficial toall who attended. The talk afterward was how you shouldJan Goforth and Kristie Keener have absolutely no contact what-so-ever with your LEAfor six months after retirement. Even if someone fromyour former LEA calls with a question, you should not answer. It could be considered as“work” (even if you are not paid) and could effect your retirement income and insurance. So if you are recently retired or almost retired, you need to check in to this. “EmergencyDuress by Lynx” was presented by Tim Lee of Lynx. “Ornamental Pest Control”, part onewas presented by Tom Glasgow, director of Craven County Cooperative Extension Of-continued on page 4video doorbellscontinued from page 1operations. These types of intercoms act as a facility’s “video doorbell,” alerting staff that someone wants toenter the building or a critical internal operational area. Sitting behind a lockeddoor, a receptionist or other staff member can view and talk with a visitor beforepushing a button to unlock the door remotely.
