The foundation of good teaching andeffective learning, for me, lies in five core principles: accessibility and mutual respect, organization and timeliness, expectations and responsibility, excitement and creativity, and acontinuous learning environment. I attempt to live these five principles by incorporating in my3

classes: open and inclusive class dialog and liberal office hours; preplanned and clearlystructured learning activities; clearly defined goals and acceptable behavior guidelines for myselfand my students; my own enthusiasm for the topics (thus inviting my students to be engaged);and a constant invitation for my students to look beyond the boundaries of the classroom walls. Ihave always maintained positive (average) course reviews from my students, and take pride intheir comments, such as: “I had never learned about any of this before. This provided a newperspective for how to think about my work I am really glad I took this class.” “She was verygood at getting the class involved and getting people to participate in positive discussions.”“Cassie is a fantastic, responsive, conscientious instructor. It's clear that she is passionate aboutoperations and deeply understands the concepts, and is very good at explaining more complexsystems to those who are not familiar with the content coming in.”Teaching Activities2020Guest Lecture, Medical Supply Chains, Pop.
