CalendarAll freshmen must arrive on August 29h!!! If you arrivebefore you will be responsible for your ownaccommodations. August 29: Freshmen Check-in August 30: Upper Classmen Check-in / Freshmen Convocation August 31 – September 2: All Student Orientation September 5: First Day of Classes September 9: Make-Up Day for Thursday Classes October 31 – November 6: Fall Break November 1: Italian Holiday (Campus Offices Closed) December 8: Italian Holiday (Campus Offices Closed, Noclasses) December 12 - 15: Final Exam Week December 16: All Students Check-Out (by 12 noon)

Registration FAQ’s Students must register for 12-18 creditsconsisting of three required courses andone elective Enrollment in an Italian language class isrequired; select one that matches yourskill level Language courses cannot be taken pass /fail Attendance is expected and required;absences will negatively affect grades All course textbooks are available at localbookstores

Billing The NYU Ebill system is used fortuition, registration fees and anestimated housing charge The estimated housing charge isused as a “placeholder charge” untilhousing assignments are finalized;the initial charge is unrelated to thefinal housing charge Once the actual housing placementhas been made, the Ebill is adjusted,resulting in either a credit or anadditional charge, which appears onstudent accounts within 2-3 weeksafter the start of the program

Arrival Arrival Cheat Sheet with shuttle times will beavailable on Blackboard Check-in is historically 10:00am to 4:00pm Transportation from the Florence Airport isbased on group flights and the majority ofstudent arrival info. Transportation from the check-in location tohousing is carried out only within officialcheck-in hours Staff will meet students outside of customs todirect them to shuttles or taxis Students arriving at other airports, by train, oroutside of set times are on their own, includingtransportation to campus (taxi 20-25) and thento their living situation ( 15-20) – cash inEuros only It may be several hours before students will beable to contact family; let family know!

Orientation Orientation sessions last 4 days, andactivities continue through theweekend Mandatory sessions are Health &Safety, NYU Florence 101,Academics, and Housing Optional sessions includeNeighborhood Tours, Campus Tour,Getting Around Florence,Information Fair, CommunityService, Work Study, Advising,Survival Italian, etc. Activities include City SightseeingTours, Peer-Accompanied Quests, aWelcome Reception, and more!

Housing & Meals All Freshmen are required to live in NYUFlorence on-campus housing Assignments are based on online formssubmissions Roommate requests are limited to bedrooms Single rooms are limited Meal plans available in On-Campus housing andin Homestays only Actual housing prices are available online andvia online forms Housing assignments are sent to students’ NYUe-mail accounts 2 weeks before check in No overnight guests (by law)

Culture & Customs Space (personal and architectural) is ascarce commodity Most young people live at home;family and childhood friends areimportant Living in older buildings can bechallenging (yet beautiful) Heat, hot water, and electricity may belimited and should be conserved Internet access may be erratic ascompared to US standards Meals: breakfast is sparse, dinner islate (8pm), and eating is an art Air-conditioning may be regarded asbad for your health

Culture & Customs When entering a business, it’s bad mannersnot to greet The customer isn’t always right Tips are just a few Euros Staring at strangers is not rude Eye contact means you’re interested Every venue, even the supermarket, is afashion show Nothing is open 24/7, stores may be closedon Sundays Schedules are suggestions, not rules,especially for the bus Firenze isn’t NYC that’s a good thing!Living conditions are not the same as theUS, so be flexible, patient and enjoy thedifferences!
