The annual award may be usedto support an outstanding oncology nurse(s) in theparticipation of, or personal career growth in thefollowing areas of educational development: attendingnational conferences, preparing for nurse practitionercertification, participation in certification programsand/or developing and delivering unit-based projects.Criteria for Eligibility and Selection:1) Demonstrated excellence in caring andcompassion, providing person-centered carethrough a focus on comfort and consolation andattention to the patient’s physical, emotional andspiritual needs.2) Demonstrated excellence in professional oncologypractice, especially in clinical assessment skills andconcentration on the application of current scienceand art in his/her bedside practice. The recipientwill maintain an ongoing commitment tocontinuing education to remain knowledgeable ofcurrent medical practices and to apply thisknowledge to their clinical decision making.3) Recipient must be experienced in managing thepatient’s primary clinical problem and identifyingany changes in their condition. In addition, theywill support their patients in dealing with theirillness and treatment physically, spiritually andemotionally. Grants from thisfund may be used to pay the cost of attendingeducational seminars, conferences, and or for obtainingcertification in areas related to hospice, palliative andend of life care. DALE AND LOUISE MORGANENDOWMENT EDUCATIONALOPPORTUNITYDOLORES AND GEORGE THIHERMEMORIAL ENDOWED NURSINGSCHOLARSHIP(For the sole purpose of continuing education andprofessional development for perioperative servicesstaff)Purpose: The purpose of this Endowment is to recognizethose outstanding staff members within theperioperative services department who are committed tothe delivery of quality and excellent care for patientswho come to Mercy needing surgery by providing themwith financial support for annual professionaldevelopment activities. Grants from this fund may beused to pay the cost of attending educational seminars,conferences, and training, as well as, of obtainingcertification in areas related to perioperative services.Costs would include registration/enrollment fees,transportation and/or lodging. Grants may also be usedto purchase educational development materials.Eligibility: The person requesting a grant must be a fullor part time employee of Mercy Medical Center, ingood standing, who is involved in any of the disciplinesof perioperative services.Criteria: Requests for grants will be awarded basedupon consideration of the following:1) If the request is for an educational developmentactivity, it must be approved by the service lineadministrator.
