As the largest business forum in Asia, the World Knowledge Forum brings together global leaders to addressthe importance of knowledge in meeting the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world.The World Knowledge Forum was conceived as part of the Vision Korea Project, a campaign launched by Maeil BusinessNewspaper in 1997, to propose new visions for development to Korea and to the global community. The first World KnowledgeForum, entitled ‘Shaping the New Millennium with Knowledge,’ took place in 2000, shortly after the Asian financial crisis.Partnering with the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Nikkei and Dow Johns, the Forum has now grown to encompass 1,053 sessionsfeaturing over 4,028 speakers in total from all around the world.

History ofThe World 0072014The Vision Korea Project was launched.Young Knowledge Leader (YKL) program was launchedto spread knowledge among students.The official Season Two of the World KnowledgeForum began at the brand new venue, ShillaHotel, Seoul. Pre-event was held featuring ThomasPiketty, Professor at the Paris School of Economics,in September to mark its beginning. Open sessionswere provided to the public at Hanuel Theatre atNational Theatre of Korea, and live streaming servicewas introduced.1998The World Knowledge Forum Secretariat wasestablished. CHANG Dae-whan, Chairman ofMaekyung Media Group and founder of the WorldKnowledge Forum, presided over the Forum’sExecutive Committee.20081999The World Knowledge Forum hosted a Luxury WatchExhibition, featuring a number of prestigious brands.The first Knowledge Management Award Ceremony wasestablished together with Booz Allen & Hamilton Inc.20001,053SessionsT he first World Knowledge Forum was held, featuring32 sessions led by 90 panelists.2001 artnerships with Financial Times, Bloomberg, andPCNBC were established. The World Knowledge Corpswas created.2002INSEAD’s first session (Best of Management) was heldat the World Knowledge Forum.WorldKnowledge Forumin Numbers (2000 2017)200373CountriesThe Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises(MAKE) Award was established and the award wasgiven to the world’s leading knowledge-drivenorganizations.2005‘ Newspaper in Education(NIE)’ agreement was signedto invite university student delegates to the WorldKnowledge Forum.The first ‘Woman Leaders Forum’ was held at theWorld Knowledge Forum.20092010New York University Stern School of business FinanceMaster session was held for the first time at the WorldKnowledge Forum.2011IE Business School’s first session was held at the WorldKnowledge Forum.2012The 13th World Knowledge Forum offered 92sessions graced by the presence of 200 panelistsincluding Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank;Condoleezza Rice, Former Minister of State of theUnited States of America; and Paul Krugman, 2008Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics. 3,000 attendeesfrom around the world participated in the Forum.2013HEC Paris and CEIBS newly joined the WorldKnowledge Forum as a knowledge partner andhosted a special session for the audience. TechnologyFrontier sessions were newly launched, coveringindustrial issues such as big data, 3D & 4D electric car,carbon fiber, display, and aerospace.2015Another prestigious venue, Jangchung Arena wasnewly added, reaffirming the reputation of the WKFas the biggest and the most prominent forum inAsia. Jangchung was equipped with a state-of-theart gigantic screen (55meters by 8meters). Also, WKFsuccessfully hosted open sessions in which over 3,500participants attended.2016The contents of the World Knowledge Forumwere vastly upgraded. Representatives of the U.S.Republican Party and the Democratic Party attendedthe forum and held fiery discussions regarding the U.S.Presidential Election. Global Money Show was hostedwithin the forum and reputable businessmen wereawarded the “Asian Business Award”.2017The number of sessions and speakers reached arecord high for the 18th World Knowledge Forum,amounting to 104 sessions and 256 speakers.30-minute impactful, short, relay lecture seriescalled INSIGHT 30’ was newly launched to the forumprogram.
