Liberty bats .281 as a team, averaging 4.4 runs and 2.0 steals per game. The Lady flames hold a 2.66 team ERA, tossing fiveshutouts. Liberty also leads the league with a .976 fielding percentage.Junior Julia DiMartino, reigning Big South Pitcher of the Year, is 8-3 with a 2.39 ERA,70 strikeouts, three shutouts, three saves and a .190 opponents batting average in 67 1/3innings. Chase Cassady holds a 4-2 record with a 2.94 ERA and one shutout.Tori Zavodny bats .362 with a team-leading four triples and seven steals, while TaylorHoffman hits .349. Chase Cassady pitched a three-hitter against Morgan State on Feb. 9, while Elizabeth Engler tossed her first career shutout, a three-hitter, versus George Washington on Sunday.This is the fourth straight year that three different Liberty pitchers have tossed at least one shutout.Comeback-AbilityLiberty has twice overcome seventh-inning deficits to win games this year, coming in back-toback games.On Feb. 16 against Central Michigan, Amber Bishop tied the game at 3-all with a seventh-inningsolo homer, before Tori Zavodny’s go-ahead triple in the ninth won it, 4-3.The Lady Flames erased one-run deficits in the seventh and eighth against North Carolinabefore winning, 3-2, on an overthrow when Jaclyn Amader stole third in the ninth on Feb. 22.The Lady Flames won a third decision in their final at bat, scoring four times in the bottom ofthe sixth to defeat Marshall, on Sunday. In 2016, Liberty Softball Stadium appeared second on the list, trailing only LSU’s Tiger Park.Stadium DedicationLiberty officially dedicated its new facility prior to the Lady Flames’ doubleheaderagainst Presbyterian on April 3, 2015. A pregame ceremony took place, as former Libertyhead coach Paul Wetmore provided the invocation. Liberty President Jerry Falwell, alongwith current head coach Dot Richardson, threw out the ceremonial first pitches. BeckiFalwell and Liberty Director of Athletics Jeff Barber were also a part of the ceremony.The highlight of the pre-game ceremony was the announcement of naming rights ofthe field, which will now be called Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.Dwayne Kamphuis, a financial supporter of Liberty University and the softball program, is a legendary fast pitch softball pitcher. In lastyear’s season opener, Amber Bishop went 2-for-3 with a double versus Chattanooga. On Feb. 9against Fairleigh Dickinson, freshman Madison Via batted 2-for-3.On Feb. 10 against Toledo, freshman Emily Kirby earned the win in relief, her first collegiate appearance. Teammate Elizabeth Engler won in her first two collegiate pitching appearances in 2017.Kirby became the first Liberty lefthanded pitcher to throw a pitch in a game since Dana Wheeleragainst Coastal Carolina, April 12, 2008.Triple the FunSo far this season, Liberty averages 0.58 triples per game, good for fifth in the nation.Tori Zavodny is tied for fourth nationally with four triples, while Jaclyn Amader is tied for ninthwith three triples.Sister ActThe Bishop twins, Amber and Autumn, played a major role for the Lady Flames as freshmenlast year. Both were voted Big South Freshman of the Week three times each.Amber set nine program freshman records and was named Big South and VaSID All-StateFreshman of the Year, as well as a top 25 finalist for the NFCA National Freshman of the Year.Autumn was an NFCA All-Region first team utility player, batting .381 with a .473 on-base percentage. She has started the 2018 season on a tear, hitting .318 with a team-best 16 runs scored.Player Quick Hits- Amber Bishop is the only player in Liberty Softball Stadium history to hit two homers in the samegame, going deep twice against All-American pitcher Sierra Hyland of Cal Poly, May 22, 2017.- Autumn Bishop recorded a 15-game hitting streak which ended last Saturday against ArizonaState. It is tied for the fifth longest hitting streak in program history and is the longest by a LadyFlame since Katie Zavodny’s program-record-tying 23-game hitting streak in 2013.- Tori Zavodny led Liberty with a .412 batting average at the Carolina Classic last weekend, raisingher season average to a team-best .362. She leads the team in seven offensive categories.- Sarah Robertson (.333) has been consistent all season. She batted .333 after two weeks, beforegoing 4-for-12 (.333) at both the Mary Nutter Classic and at last week’s Carolina Classic.- After batting .315 as a freshman in 2016, Jaclyn Amader slipped to .204 last season. She hasbounced back so far this year, batting .271 with two doubles, three triples, one homer and 10 RBI.- Madison Via hit her first career home run last Friday against Marshall, at the same stadium (Carolina Softball Stadium) where current Liberty senior Alexia Taylor hit her first career homer in 2015.- Taylor Hoffman is batting .349 this season and recorded her first career three-hit game, last Sunday against George Washington.- Kaitlin McFarland earned her first career individual honor, being named to the 2017 Big SouthAll-Tournament team. She leads the team with nine walks in 2018.- Deidra See has made the first five catching starts of her career this season. She has thrown out 50percent of would-be basestealers (3-of-6) this year.- Alexia Taylor batted .391 with 19 RBI in conference play last season. Her 12-game hitting streak inApril was the second longest by a Lady Flame in 2017.- Jasmeen Click and Rylee Reynolds have both appeared on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays onceduring their respective careers.- Rylee Reynolds made her first collegiate pitching appearance on Feb. 11 against Detroit Mercy,getting a game-ending double play in the seventh. A junior, she is a career .272 hitter in 80 games.
