First Edition Seventh PrintingOperator's Manual SupplementImportant InformationLimited Purpose of ThisManualWarningFailure to comply with the followingrequirements may result in death orserious injury. Any operator using Genie equipment in themanner set forth in this Supplemental Manualmust be a Set Lighting Technician or StudioGrip AND must have completed a specifictraining course that complies with therequirements of this Supplemental Manual. Ifyou are not a Set Lighting Technician or StudioGrip who has received specific training, do notdeviate from the requirements of the standardGenie Operator's Manual for use of Genieequipment. Strict compliance with this SupplementalManual, as well as Genie's standard Operator'sManual and Manual of Responsibilities, alongwith completion of specialized training, isessential to safe operation of the ApprovedModels as set forth in this supplement.Approved ModelsProof of Training and RecordsRetentionQualified trainers shall provide proof of training toall successful trainees. The document evidencingtraining shall include the following information:1 The name of the person (operator) being trainedor retrained.2 The name of the organization providing trainingor retraining.3 The name of the trainer(s).4 Clear identification that the training covered theapplications contained in this SupplementalManual.5 The date of training.S -40S -85 XC Z -45/25JS -45S -100Z -34/22 ICS -60S -105Z -45 XC S -65S -120Z -60/34S -60HCS -125Z -60/37 FES -80SX -125 XC Z -60/37 DCS -85Z -45/25Z -80/60Part No. 97636This Supplemental Manual was prepared by GenieIndustries at the express request of unionsrepresenting Set Lighting Technicians and StudioGrips. These operators requested Genie's writtenpermission to use the Approved Models listedbelow in certain ways that deviate from Genie'sstandard manuals for that equipment. ThisSupplemental Manual contains Genie's writtenpermission and the requirements that must befollowed by specifically trained operators to enablethem to use the Approved Models in the mannerset forth in this Supplemental Manual.Records of training shall be retained by the trainersfor at least four years and shall include all theinformation listed above.3

Operator's Manual SupplementFirst Edition Seventh PrintingSafety RulesFor the Attachment of SetLighting, Camera Equipmentand Light Diffusion FramesDanger The aerial lift must be operated only on a firm, level surface. Operators must be trained and be able todemonstrate proficiency in the operation of thespecific model of Genie aerial lift beingoperated. Genie booms are not insulated. Precautionsshall be taken to protect the operator and peopleon the ground from electrocution hazards. Theattachment of power supply cables to the boomshall not restrict the movement of the aerial liftor endanger the operator or people on theground.Failure to comply with the followingrequirements will result in death orserious injury. Attachment of power supply cables to the boomshall be accomplished in a manner that doesnot cause a tip-over hazard due to a side orvertical force that could result in the machinebecoming unstable.Modification of the Approved Modelsfor use by attachment of lights, lightmounting hardware, camera mountinghardware and light diffusion frames(LDFs) to the platform guard rail isauthorized by Genie Industries only ifthe following rules and requirementsare strictly followed: Power supply cables must be attached to theend of each boom section in a manner thatensures the cable cannot be damaged fromtensioning, pinching or crushing when the boomis operated. Operators must have completed training for theattachment of lighting or camera equipment andLDFs to the platform guard rail. Training mustinclude, but not be limited to, informationregarding the effect on platform capacity andstability resulting from the attachment ofequipment to the platform guard rail or to theboom of the aerial lift, and hazards associatedwith this application. All operating instructions and warningscontained in the Operator’s Manual, SafetyManual and Manual of Responsibilities, and ondecals found on the particular Genie aerial lift, must be followed.4 LDFs hung from the platform guard rail must notbe rigidly attached in any manner that couldcause or impose a side or vertical load fromwind or contact with adjacent objects greaterthan the rated side load posted at the entranceto the platform. Attachment of LDFs and rope to the platformshall be accomplished in a manner that doesnot cause a tip-over hazard due to a side orvertical force that could result in the machinebecoming unstable. Do not alter the guard rail system by drilling, welding, crushing, damaging or making anyother modifications that compromise thestrength of the guard rail when attaching movieproduction equipment.Part No. 97636

First Edition Seventh PrintingOperator's Manual SupplementSAFETY RULES The entrance to the platform, the platformcontrols, including the foot switch and theemergency stop button, the lanyard anchoragepoints, the platform decals and instructioncontainer must remain accessible when movieproduction equipment is attached to theplatform. Operators must not gain access to or exit theplatform by means of walking or climbing on theboom or lift structure or by attaching a rope or ahanging ladder from the platform or itssupporting structure. Access to and exit fromthe platform shall be accomplished at groundlevel only. Loading restrictions greater than rated capacityare provided in this manual and are restricted tomaterial lifting only. Do not exceed rated capacity of the machinewhen there are personnel in the platform. The combined weight of platform attachments, power supply cables, mounting hardware, platform occupant(s), tools and equipment mustin all cases remain less than the maximumrated platform capacity for both personnel liftingand material only lifting applications. Use theplatform capacity reduction chart found in thissupplement to determine allowable platformload. The number and size of attachments must belimited by consideration of the maximumallowable wind speed and the surface area ofplatform attachments. Use the wind speed chartfound in this supplement to determine maximumallowable wind speed. Information regarding the attachment of LDFsand lighting and camera equipment shall besupplied only to trained union members.Operators must be familiar with thesesupplemental instructions and warnings beforethey are allowed to operate any Genie boomthat is approved for this application.Part No. 976365

Always calculate the reduction of theplatform capacity caused by attachment of moreproduction equipment.Reduce platform capacity according to thefollowing: Attachment of power supply cables to theboom reduces the platform capacity. Subtractthe total suspended weight of cables andrigging from the rated platform capacity. Subtract the load applied to the platform bythe attachment of additional movie productionequipment (as shown in Illustration 1) by usingthe procedure and chart on the followingpages.S-40, S-60, S-60HC, S-80, S-100, Z-34/22 IC,Z-45/25, Z-45/25J, Z-60/34 and Z-80/60: With operator(s) in the platform, no additionalload above rated platform capacity is allowed. When used as a material lift only, the payload(with adjustment per Platform CapacityReduction Chart) must not exceed the loadshown in the attached load rating range-ofmotion charts.S-45, S-65, S-85, S-85 XC, S-105, S-120, S-125,SX-125 XC, Z-45 XC, Z-60/37 DC and Z-60/37 FE: No additional load above rated platformcapacity is allowed. Personnel and payload(with adjustment per Platform CapacityReduction Chart) must not exceed the loadshown in the appropriate Operator'sManual and Decals for your machine.Theory:Platform maximum capacity is based on an evenlydistributed load. When movie production equipment, such as light diffusion frames, set lighting andcamera mounts, are attached to the front of theplatform (entry side), the platform capacity isreduced by more than the weight of the equipment. The farther the equipment is mounted from thecenter of the platform, the greater the reduction inplatform capacity.Definition:Center of Gravity (C.G.): The balance point of anobject. The point at which the entire weight of anobject is concentrated so that if the object issuspended from that point, it will be balanced.Part No. 976369
