aeLadies and Gentlemen, you are being controlled. No it's not the Deros this time, it's Bob Tucker.Tucker has for years held you in his thrall withoutyour knowledge. It all began when he worked for the Rooseveltadministration in 1935.He set up The Great StapleWar, an effort that in later years evolved into theWar On Poverty and the food-stamp program.Heretired from government shortly after his firstdeath, which took place in late 1935 and caused theletter column of Astounding to become sercon everafter.(At least until 1938.)This forced retirement permitted Tucker tolaunch his most famous effort in propaganda, hisfanzine Le Zombie.Since the magazine was supposedly published every time a zombie awoke, Tuckerpublished an issue after he heard of the deathof a fan. Most fannish deaths in those days weregreatly exaggerated, of course.Tucker sufferedseveral of them, until they no longer affectedhim at all.At that time he stopped publishingfanzines. Our hero then turned to writing, becoming famousas a mystery author.Earl Stanly Gardener and RobertBlotch were his most famous pseudonyms; when he occasionally wrote science fiction, he was known asVektis Brack and Volsted Gridban.Arthur Leo Zagatonce said of him, 'Do you have fireflies there?"For several years Tucker was also employed inthe motion picture industry.Over the years Tucker has built up his power. The greatest demonstration of hisfannish sneakinesscame when he was designated contractor for a hotelfor the World Science Fiction Convention.Fans wereto send him a brick through the mail for the hotel'sconstruction.Shortly thereafter, Tucker moved without leaving a forwarding address. This maneuverclearly demonstrates the Machiavellian nature ofTucker's brilliant though devious mind. His great wit has brought him power; and so itis that the Minnesota Science Fiction Societyhonors the True Secret Master or Fandom, Bob Tucker.

Before voting this year for the '76 Worldcon site, carefully consider the possibility of Kansas City asyour final choice. Why? Well, our centralized location, our experienced fan group, and our hotel facil-ity-- the Muehlebach, with its 700 rooms and 51,000sq. ft. convention center, are only three very goodreasons. If you are still undecided, look up ow representatives at Minicon 8, or write to us for a copyof ourFREEbidding information -brochure.
