our MissionDear FrienDs,On August 25, 2008, we opened the doors of the first new Catholic high school onChicago’s West Side in 85 years. 116 N. LeClaire Street was home to the very firstChrist the King students. These courageous students acted on faith alone, trusting inour promise of a safe, affordable, and rigorous Jesuit, college preparatory high schoolexperience. The school began to grow, both in enrollment and in activities. After a yearand a half in our temporary home on LeClaire Street, we dedicated our new, state-ofthe-art campus on Jackson Boulevard on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of 2010. In fourshort years, we have walked together from Groundbreaking to Graduation. The 2011-2012 academic year was historic. Our first students became our first seniors. We shared their joy when they received their first college acceptance letters, and counseled them as they made important decisions about their futures. In the end, everysingle student in the Class of 2012 was accepted to college. We encourage you to follow the timeline on the following pages highlighting our journey together from Groundbreaking to Graduation. While these milestones illustrateour accomplishments, they cannot capture the difference you have made in the livesof our students and families. We often speak of the Christ the King Family, and that is what we have become.Students arrive early and stay late, not simply because we are a sanctuary from theviolence that plagues our neighborhood, but also because they feel a sense of belonging within these walls. They are encouraged to dream big dreams and are supportedto pursue them by our dedicated faculty and staff. They have founded clubs, startedsports teams, edited yearbooks and earned over 3.5 million toward their education atwork. They will be doctors and nurses, bankers, lawyers and entrepreneurs, but theyalso share a sense of a greater purpose—of becoming men and women for others, dedicated to justice and making a difference in their communities. Our students havespent thousands upon thousands of hours in service to others in soup kitchens andshelters, helping to lift up those who are in greater need. With our first alumni settled on college campuses, we continue the important work ofpreparing every one of our students to follow in their footsteps on the path to collegesuccess. We are immensely grateful to you, our partners, benefactors and advocates, for all that you have done and continue to do to make this dream a reality for studentswho need it the most. Thank you!You are changing lives. You are the Christ the King Family.Thank you,Rev. As a teen growing up on the North Shore, she recognized the advantages she enjoyed and understood students in the Austin neighborhood didn’t have thesame financial opportunities, her father Tom Seeberg said. “This is the best example ofwhat Lizzy was about,” Seeberg told the crowd gathered at the dedication. “She had aspecial ability to see need in others. The fact that there is something that pays tribute tothat is very special to us.”The JAVs are recent college graduates who volunteer for two years, serving as teachers, coaches, moderators, and mentors for our students. They live in an intentional faithcommunity and share meals, prayer, and service.
