ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)AM ClassesBeginning ESL/EL CIVICS: This course is designed to teach the non-English speaking adult how tocommunicate effectively in the English language. In this course, the emphasis is on spoken English and anunderstanding of the community in which they live.Intermediate ESL/EL CIVICS: Students will expand basic language skills in speaking, reading, writing, andlistening. INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAMIndependent Study provides an alternative method of earning your high school diploma. Students meet weeklywith their teacher for assistance and direction and must also commit to completing 15 hours of academic workeach week. One credit is awarded for 10 hours of work completed successfully. This course is designed forstudents who can work independently, have passed the CAHSEE, and are within 20 credits of graduating.Location: CHS on Tuesdays: 5:30-7:00 p.m.Room #: 401Dates: 1/17/12– 5/24/12GED TEST PREPARATIONSuccessful completion of the GED test is considered academically equivalent to a high school diploma.Students will receive instruction in the five areas of the GED High School Equivalency test and pretests aregiven to determine individual student needs. Theclass consists of intensive preparation for the exam. Only students that have met all of the credit requirementsfor mathematics are eligible for this class. The class is available 6 weeks of each semester.
