Prepare written documents in a professionalmanner. Develop oral communication skills topresent information in a professional andappropriate manner. Demonstrate appropriate listening skills inone-on-one and small and large groupsettings.General Education Core CompetenciesMathematical Reasoning: Students will applythose mathematical skills appropriate to theirprogram of study.Course Methodology, Contentand/or AssessmentParticipation in class discussions is recommended andencouraged.The class consists of exercises that require the students tocomplete case scenarios by referring to the appropriatechapter, article, part, and section of the current NECdocument.The Instructor will work with each individual student to assurequality workmanship.Course Methodology, Contentand/or AssessmentStudents will be able to calculate circuit values.Students will use appropriate NEC tables and formulas tocalculate various electrical installation requirements. Analyze and solve mathematical problemsneeded in the workplace, daily life andeducational environment. Interpret data using analytical methods.Critical Thinking: Students will employ effectiveprocesses for resolving problems and makingdecisions. Identify problems and potential causes. Solve problems using basic research,analysis and interpretation. Evaluate results of solutions and revisestrategies as indicated by findings.Students will utilize and determine safety requirements andpractices identified in the current edition of the NEC.Students, when given a job scenario, will identify electricalinstallation deficiencies in accordance with the current edition ofthe NEC.Students when given a job site scenario will specify solutions toreported electrical installation deficiencies IAW the current editionof the NEC.

Master Course SyllabusTechnology Utilization: Students will applyknowledge of computers on a level compatiblewith job and/or educational demands.Students will utilize computer skills to research and generatesolutions to electrical installation challenges that are consistent withrequirements of the current edition of the NEC. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of computerapplications including word processing,spreadsheets, databases, and presentationsoftware. Use basic operating system functionscompetently (e.g. store and retrieve data,load software). Master Course SyllabusCollege PoliciesPolicy TypeAttendance PolicyPolicy DescriptionWilliamsburg Technical College does not require specificattendance in a course. Acknowledging that participationsupports student success in coursework, however,individual instructors may set attendance guidelines for thecourse. Those specific guidelines must be included in thecourse syllabus. (See Syllabus Addendum provided by theinstructor.)In addition, students must attend during the first two weeksof class or inform the instructor of their intent to attend toremain on the class roster. If no prior arrangements havebeen made and the student does not attend during the firsttwo weeks following the semester start date, the student willbe dropped as a “no show” from that course following thesecond week of class.Class rosters will be final as of the end of the secondweek of classes.Students may withdraw from a class at any time bycompleting a withdrawal form in the Student ServicesOffice. A student can only receive a “WP” grade ifwithdrawal is completed in the Student Services Office priorto the last date to receive a “WP” grade publishedin the academic calendar. Master Course SyllabusGrading PolicyPolicy for Class Safety andEmergenciesThe College operates on the semester hour system, and thefollowing symbols are used in grading:A-- ExcellentB -- Above AverageC -- AverageD -- PassingF -- FailureI -- IncompleteWF -- Withdrawal while failingWP -- Withdrawal while passingInjuries must be reported to the AVP for Student Affairsimmediately. Insurance claim forms are available in theStudent Affairs division. Please refer to the collegecatalogue for more information on how WilliamsburgTechnical College addresses safety and emergency issues.For additional information, contact Student Affairs at843.355.4162.Students taking coursework at off-site locations areresponsible for reading and adhering to all safetyinstructions and guidance at the off-site location.Health Services and First AidWilliamsburg Technical College is a commuter institution;therefore, infirmary facilities are not provided. Basic first aidfor minor injuries is available, and first aid kits are located invarious departments of the College. Major illness or injurywill be treated by health professionals. The campus islocated adjacent to Williamsburg Regional Hospital.Each student is covered by accident insurance at noadditional cost. This group insurance covers the studentwhile on campus and during college-sponsored group travel.
