A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTOF KEAN UNIVERSITYI’m pleased to report that Kean University,at this writing, is a stronger, smarter, and more dynamic institution thanever before. Our enrollment continuesto grow, our finances are strong, and ournew academic programs are redefiningKean in the marketplace. Most importantly, our students are daily being challengedto engage with the global community, collaboratively and competitively. Our campus in Wenzhou, China, about 250 miles south of Shanghai, hasbecome sought after by Chinese students who want to learn English andget a degree from an American university. Four years ago, Wenzhou-KeanUniversity’s first freshman class began their studies. I’m proud to announcethat the first Chinese graduates will receive their diplomas at the end of thisacademic year—in May 2016.Back here in New Jersey, we welcomed our first students into our School ofPublic Architecture, housed within the Michael Graves College, named forthe late world-renowned architect who chose Kean University to receive his2014 ANNUAL REPORTteaching legacy and train the world’s next generation of architects.2

Opportunity means that Kean provides its studentswith the world-class, state-of-the-art tools neededto prepare for a successful career in today’s globalmarketplace.Another very promising new initiative launched this fall: Kean Online. A recent nationalstudy estimated nearly 32 percent of college students take some courses online, andmore than 25 percent are completing full programs online. Kean Online represents acommitment to bring our world-class academic programming to students and adultlearners who are not able to take classes on campus. Kean Online launched witha degree program in Global Business, and will soon offer Business Management,Criminal Justice, Nursing, and a master’s program in Educational Leadership. In STEM, Dean Keith Bostian led the effort to establish a new regional Life SciencesInstitute. Now in its second year, the Institute brings together researchers and scientists from academia with entrepreneurs and business leaders with R&D experience.Ultimately, the goal is to translate academic research and discovery into successfulhealth care solutions. As a result of these efforts, Kean University was awarded itsfirst-ever U.S. patent this year. There is so much more going on at Kean University—much more than I have roomfor here. So I’ll conclude by inviting you to come to our campus—actually, any of ourthree campuses, in Union, N.J.; Toms River, N.J.; and Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province,China. I can promise that you’ll be energized and inspired to see what your philanthropic investment is accomplishing. On behalf of our students, I thank all of youfor your support and your commitment to them and to this wonderful university.DAWOOD Y. FARAHI, PH.D.President, Kean University3
