Part of The Creating Opportunity Awards, GLSP was honored as a communitydirect service provider who has gone above and beyondin aid and services to residents in need. N ancy DeVetter,Staff Attorney for GLSP, accepted the award for herwork in this area.The genesis for the Savannah office of the GLSP camefrom Step Up Savannah in collaboration with theGeorgia Justice Project. Recognizing the need to providelegal aid to the poor, GLSP secured start- up fundingfrom the United Way of the Coastal Empire. On October 27th, the Savannah Office of Georgia Legal ServicesProgram (GLSP), the General Practice & Trial Law Section ofthe State Bar, and the Young Lawyers Division partnered tobring ?Ask A Lawyer Day? to local residents.Part of an initiative to meet the Bar?s responsibility to makelegal services available to those unable to afford them, clientswith appointments spoke with an attorney regarding any civillegal matter, including family law, public benefits, probate,and more.
