Brent YoungAColorado State University Extension annually conducts asurvey of custom rates charged for various crop andlivestock operations and lease arrangements inColorado. Data were collected from agriculturalproducers, landowners and managers, lenders,agricultural consultants, machine operators, andExtension agents.seem unusually low or high which is due to very fewrespondents and/or the operation is not widelyperformed. The information in this report should be usedonly as a guide.In cases where data were not available, or the sample sizewas too small to report, results from the 2019 customrates survey are reported. These numbers are denoted bybold text throughout the report.Electronic data collection methods were used for thisyear’s report. The results from more than 270respondents were combine with anecdotal datacollected throughout the year.For the first time, survey respondents were invited towhat custom services they provide to others and theircontact information. The information given herein issupplied by CSU Extension with the understanding thatno endorsement of named products is intended, nor isdiscrimination or criticism implied of products mentionedor not mentioned. To simplify technical terminology, orfor the purpose of information, trade names of productsand equipment occasionally will be used.The survey results are reported by on a statewide basis.Reported rates represent a variety of workingconditions, machine and equipment sizes, and farm andranch operations. Field conditions, field size, terrain,and location also account for some variations in ratescharged. It is understood there are regional differencesin actual and reported rates. The reported rates do notnecessarily measure the full economic cost ofperforming the specified work.The authors would like to thank everyone whocontributed to the 2020 custom rates survey. It is hopedthat this “custom rates” report is beneficial to makinginformed decisions.A possible additional charge (not reflected in thispublication) associated with a custom operation is a“mileage fee”.
