The University of Pittsburgh, Department ofRehabilitation Science & Technology ContinuingEducation Program (RSTCE) is the host of the31st International Seating Symposium (ISS).The ISS is the lead educational and scientific conferencein the field of wheelchair seating & mobility and relatedtechnologies. The 31st ISS will host over 1800 people fromaround the world.The Symposium includes scientific and clinical papers,research forums, in-depth workshops, panel sessions, andan extensive exhibit hall. Presentations address the wheeledmobility and seating challenges and solutions for peoplewith disabilities across the lifespan and conditions such asneuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injury and diseases ofthe spinal cord, orthopedic conditions, systemic conditions,obesity, and polytrauma.The conference takes place from February 26 – 28, 2015(pre-symposium workshops February 24-25) at the GaylordOpryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TNUSA.The 31st ISS features 140 sessions that includes pre-symposium workshops,plenary sessions, instructional courses, papers, posters,and manufacturer product demonstrations.85,000 square foot Exhibition Hall of 117 exhibitors ofproducts and services (February 25-27).The Exhibit Hall is open a full-day early to Consumersand Attendees on Wednesday, February 25 during preconference workshops.Thursday night Social Event at the Wildhorse Saloon.Audience Assistive Technology Professionals (ATP)Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS)Rehabilitation Engineering Technologist (RET)Occupational TherapistsPhysical TherapistsRecreational TherapistsEducatorsManufacturersProduct DevelopersPeople with DisabilitiesPhysiciansNursesRehabilitation Engineers & TechniciansVocational Rehabilitation CounselorsResearchersPolicy MakersCEU CertificatesCEU Certificates are issued electronically via emailattachment through the www.rstce.org portal. Upon attendingthe 31st ISS, attendees are required to log back into theportal and complete an overall ISS conference evaluation andcourse evaluations for individual sessions. A unique courseidentification code is also provided at the end of each sessionthat must be entered. The CEUs certificate is prorated basedon sessions actually attended with course evaluations andunique session codes.University of Pittsburgh RSTCE CEUs are not given for timespent in the exhibit hall, visiting Poster Sessions, or attendingmanufacturer product demonstrations. Manufacturers mayprovide NRRTS CECs for product demonstrations.Information for Specific CredentialsThe University of Pittsburgh, School of Health andRehabilitation Sciences awards Continuing Education Unitsto individuals who enroll in certain educational activities.The CEU is designated to give recognition to individualswho continue their education in order to stay current intheir profession. (One CEU is equivalent to 10 hours ofparticipation in an organized continuing education activity.)Each person should claim only those hours of credit that theyactually spent in the educational activity.Occupational Therapy PractitionersThe National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy,Inc. (NBCOT) accepts the University’s CEUs as PDUs forOTR and COTA re-certification. Individual State OT PracticeBoards may have additional requirements.Physical Therapy PractitionersAs a CAPTE accredited program, the University of PittsburghSchool of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is a preapproved provider of CE for PTs and PTAs in most States.Physical Therapy practitioners should verify with theirlocal practice boards to determine if there are additionalrequirements to apply University of Pittsburgh CEUs.Assistive Technology Professionals (ATPs)In addition, RSTCE CEUs are accepted by the RehabilitationEngineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America(RESNA) for certification and re-certification of the AssistiveTechnology Professional (ATP) and Seating & MobilitySpecialist (SMS). The National Registry of RehabilitationTechnology Suppliers (NRRTS) also accepts the University ofPittsburgh CEUs for the Certified Rehabilitation TechnologySupplier (CRTS) credential.Continuing Education UnitsUp to 1.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) can be earnedto individuals for attending 17 hours of instruction at the mainISS conference sessions.
