2020 NATIONAL SURVEY ON DRUG USE AND HEALTHCAI INSTRUMENT REVISIONSClinical Validation StudyThe Clinical Validation Study (CVS) was embedded within the first six months of 2020National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) main study data collection to assess theupdated substance use disorders (SUD) module, which has been revised to be consistentwith the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), fifth edition criteria(DSM-5).The CVS sample was comprised of a probability subsample of Adults aged 18 and older andYouth aged 12-17, selected from NSDUH main study interview respondents who answeredthe survey in English and reported using alcohol or marijuana at least once in the past 12months. NSDUH main study interview respondents selected for the CVS were assigned theDSM-5 SUD module in place of the DSM-IV SUD module, but otherwise completedmodules in the same order as other NSDUH main study interview respondents.Summary of RevisionsChanges to the specifications to accommodate the CVS are noted in yellow highlighting.Changes between the 2019 NSDUH and 2020 NSDUH are noted in green and bluehighlighting. Green revisions indicate that a question or logic was moved one location in thequestionnaire to aother location.
