LECTURE PROGRAMME 2021Accounting update8 MARCH 2021GUY LOVEDAY BSc (Econ), FCAGuy is a partner in the Professional TrainingPartnership and a director of PTP Limited.He is a member of the lecturing panels forICAEW, ICAS and ACCA. He specialises inAuditing and Financial Reporting updates(new UK GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP) foraccountants in practice and in industry,and in finance courses for members of thewider financial community. He also providesa consultancy service to assist companiesin preparing their annual financialstatements. Tim lecturesseveral times each week to professionalaudiences all over the country. He has theability to make even the most obscure taxpoint crystal clear and the most mundanetopic entertaining and informative. Tim is theoriginal author of three chapters in Tolley’sTax Planning and presenter of TAXtv. Heis a past member of the Editorial Board ofICAEW’s Tax Faculty and is also the editorand publisher of PTP’s monthly ProfessionalTax Update.The course will make participants aware ofthe latest developments in direct taxes whichgive rise to planning opportunities andpitfalls that they and their clients need toexploit or avoid. He started his career as anICAEW Chartered Accountant, qualifyingwith Grant Thornton in 1988 and qualifiedas an Associate of the Institute of Taxationin 1991. Dean is also the senior lectureron the CTA VAT route at Tolley’s and theEU VAT paper on the ADIT internationaltax exams. He is a regular contributorto Taxation magazine where his articleshave got a reputation for providing clearpractical advice.The course provides an update on importantchanges in VAT in the preceding 12 months.It will review recent cases and identifypotential problem areas for clients.4Further, the course will explain in detailimportant or complex cases (includingtribunal decisions), thus providing a betterunderstanding of complex areas of VAT law.The specific course content will depend onchanges in the period before the course isrun, but in general courses will follow thesame structure: Changes in the last Budgetand Finance Act; Review of Tribunal cases:identification of particular trends in casesor in the approach of HMRC to topicalmatters; Major VAT cases in the preceding12 months: what the case establishedand likely impact on clients generally;New leaflets issued: changes in practiceor guidance; Important developmentslikely to occur in the succeeding months;Recent stamp duty land tax cases ofpractical interest.
