The repairs may take more or less time than the three weeks assumed.Area 4 – Tower 1 Makai (ocean) SideThe majority of the spall repair work is located in the Mauka (mountain) and Makai (ocean)ends of the Towers and should not impact the ground floor units during this phase of thespall repair work. The spall repair work is located on the face and underside of the lanaiedge. Most repairs appear to be small and should not take more than two or three daysonce the Contractor has access to the area. The Contractor will be setting up swing stagescaffolding where spall locations are above the 5th floor. Spall repairs below the 5th floorwill be accessed via ground mounted scaffolding. There will be a safety officer in the dropzone to maintain a safety zone below work areas. Building entries and exits will beprotected by a scaffold tunnel for safety. All access to the areas needing repair will be fromthe exterior so no unit entry will be required. She was named afterthe beautiful Naupaka flower which she often wore in her hair. One day she was walking along the beach andand encountered a handsome young man who was fishing. As their eyes met, it was “love at first sight”. His name was Kaui. Theyspent hours along the beach talking, holding hands as it was obvious to both that they were meant for each other. As days passed, they became more and more in love and their passion for each other grew stronger. There was a problem though. Hawaiianbeliefs did not allow a person of Royal Hawaiian Heritage, as Naupaka was, to marry a common person as Kaui. It was restrictedand forbidden. Both Kaui and Naupaka decided to talk to a very respected Hawaiian Kupuna (elder) in the village that Naupakalived in to ask for her wisdom to marry. The Kupuna shook her head and said “Naupaka, I cannot help you in your marriageto Kaui because it is strictly forbidden. Your only hope is to see a Kupuna (highpriest)”. The young girl cried and cried as she prepared herself for the visit to the highpriest for his permission. Naupaka and Kaui traveled for many days over beautifulmountains, valleys, rivers and forest in search of the high priest. When the high priestwas finally found, they expressed their heartfelt love for each other to him and askedif they would have his permission and blessing to be married. The High Priest said “I can see that you have great love for each other, but I cannot give you permission to marry for that canonly come from the Gods. You need to pray to them and wait for the answer”. As both of them began to pray, dark cloudsimmediately came overhead with fierce rain, lightning, and loud booms of thunder. It became apparent to Naupaka that the Godswere NOT in favor of their marriage. They were both very hurt as Naupaka tore the flower from her hair apart and gave half of itto Kaui and kept the other half and said “My love, we cannot be together. You must go back to the ocean where you can continuefishing and I will go back up the hills alone to continue my life.” As the 2 lovers separated and sadly went on with their lives alone, the beautiful Naupaka Flowers which bloomed often near their surroundings became very sad as well. Even the flowers mournedto see the young lover’s hearts broken so badly. As a memorial to their love, now when the Naupaka flowers bloom, they onlyblooms in halves. Today, there are 2 types of Naupaka flowers. One grows near the sea where Kaui was from, called NaupakaKahakai. (They can be found along our Whaler beachfront.) The other grows in the mountains where Naupaka lived, called NaupakaKauihiwa. Each is what appears to be a half-blossom and when placed together, they form a perfect flower in memory of bothNaupaka and Kaui’s love for each other. Such a beautiful flower for such a sad story.
