The AirportCharlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is a City ofCharlotte department comprised of more than 700 full and part-time employees.CLT serves as an enterprise fund and uses no local taxmoney to pay daily operating costs. Revenue generatedby the airport, including parking, concessions, landingfees, rental cars, advertising, cargo, fixed-base operator,and airline rentals, pays for Airport operations.As the 5th busiest airport in the world and second largesthub to the world’s largest airlines, American Airlines, CLTserved more than 43 million passengers in 2021.CLT offers nonstop service to 183 destinations, including36 international locations and three U.S. territories,averaging 1,400 daily arrivals and departures last year.Due to COVID-19, both passenger numbers and aircraftoperations have declined in 2020 and 2021 but aresteadily rising.Charlotte Douglas remains one of the fastest growingairports in the country with a keen eye toward the future.Destination CLT, a 3.1 billion development plan, kickedoff in 2015. The PositionThe Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible forall aspects of airport operations at Charlotte DouglasInternational Airport (CLT). The COO provides strategicleadership, vision and staff support in accomplishingthe effectiveness of airside operations, landsideoperations, terminal operations, airport security, gatemanagement, emergency management, and the airportoperations center. The COO also may be assigned asa delegate for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in hisor her absence. The COO is a member of the Airport’sexecutive staff and directs and manages all aspectsof CLT’s vision and mission as related to operations,including the development and implementation of goals,objectives, policies and priorities for assigned areas.He or she works in concert with the CEO and othermembers of the Airport leadership team to developand implement strategies to increase capacity andimprove Airport efficiency and effectiveness. The COOestablishes and maintains effective relationships withAirport stakeholders including City departments (Fireand Police), Airport tenants, the City Council, and stateand federal regulatory agencies. The COO reviewsand approves all Airport operations actions to meetFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) and TransportationSecurity Administration (TSA) regulations andcompliance matters. The Ideal CandidateRequires a master’s degree plus five years ofexperience, a bachelor’s degree from an accreditedcollege or university and seven (7) years of experience,or an equivalent combination of education and relevantwork/industry/military/job specific experience thatprovides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities tosuccessfully perform the essential job duties.Salary and CompensationThe starting salary range for this position is 191,686- 223,634 DOE.
