Originally a re-route for the roadwas estimated to be completed by March, butthat deadline has now been pushed to October.Rowe said construction was pushed backbecause the county qualified for FederalEmergency Relief Funding administered bythe Federal Highway Department and theOregon Department of Transportation. BothEast Beaver Hill and the South Coos Riverslide projects need to meet certain requirements to get funding, which can be time consuming.David Evans and Associates is responsible forthe project design, which should be finishedby July.Rowe said in an email that the county is footing the bill for the engineering design. Thatmoney is reimbursable.ODOT will pay for the construction costs.Combined, the projects are estimated to cost 4.4 million, with the design portion costing 300,000.

Bandon AquaticCenter updateBy Ann KingBANDON – A fun afternoon at the poolsite on Aug. 19 will help ensure everyonein Bandon knows the location of the futurepool. Mark your calendars and come alongfor an afternoon of music, sunshine, foodand cold drinks, and entertainment.Development of the Bandon AquaticCenter is moving forward with planningpermission now being negotiated, vegetation control in operation and numbers ofLOOP (Lovers of our Pool) supporters andboard directors increasing.By the way, the name “Bandon AquaticCenter” and “Bandon CommunitySwimming Pool” will likely be used interchangeably. The Bandon Aquatic Center isthe name of the facility when it's operating,so don't be confused by the differentnames. The center will also have a good-sized fitness center, as that seems to be what thepublic increasingly calls for.The board has a busy fundraising summerahead - the Family Health Day in City Parkon June 3, the parade on the Fourth of Julywith clown car and dunk tank, a FamilyCelebration on Aug. 19 at the pool site, andthe parade, again with clown car, at theCranberry Festival. If you’d like to help, step up and talk to any of the board mem-bers or leave a note on the web site-bandonpool.com.Speaking of stepping up, many in thecommunity are increasingly doing so. Ourpledges of funds at ground breaking arenearing 20,000. We've received notice ofseveral people who have left us a legacy, one a truly significant amount. And ourdonation boxes in the community storesare well supported.Code Crew, an IT organization inCoquille, is responsible for designing thegreat new web page. Have a look andyou’ll agree it’s one of the best around.Robert Merriam continues to provide thegroup professional accounting and taxservices, as he has for so many years. Thistakes a good deal of the pressure off theboard treasurer and ensures the board isdoing what it should, when it should. Andlast but not least, Donley Constructionstepped right up and repaired the signboard at the future pool site. They had towait until the water subsided, but they gotit done.Have a look at the new web site (bandonpool.com), come to the summer events andsign up as a LOOP supporter. It will allhelp get our pool built.Questions can be answered through theweb site or by calling 541-347-2534.
