LasPatronas helps small grass-root nonprofits as well as larger, morevisible organizations to acquire critically needed capital itemsthat might not otherwise be funded. Every application is carefullyreviewed to ensure the nonprofit organization is financially sound,well run, and focused on its mission of service to the community. Ateam of Las Patronas members visits every qualified grant applicantbefore any funds are awarded. We are proud to partner with ourworthy beneficiaries who providediverse services over a broadgeographical range throughoutSan Diego. By giving to LasPatronas, supporters expand theirphilanthropic giving to reachmore children, military, refugees,seniors,homeless,disabledpersons and our animal friends –the members of our communitywho need us the most.Building the BallOn the first Saturday in August, the pulse of hundreds of partygoerselectrifies the graceful twilight at the beautiful La Jolla Beach &Tennis Club. The evening is a culmination of many months ofplanning and industry by the dedicated members of Las Patronas - agroup of fifty plus women who have committed to a minimum sixyear membership to support the mission of Las Patronas. Membersvolunteer their time and talent to plan fabulous décor and buildspectacular design elements to ultimately produce one of SanDiego’s premier parties, the Jewel Ball. In the four days precedingthe event, members “Build theBall” by transforming the LaJolla Beach & Tennis Club into adazzling themed venue. Thanksto the collaboration of membersand supporters, the Jewel Ball wasnamed a “Best Fête” by ModernLuxury magazine and continuesto be one of San Diego’s mostenduring social, cultural, andphilanthropic traditions.our Beneficiaries are soaring .Stories of how past grant recipients have taken to the skies!Alpha ProjectFor over 20 years, Las Patronas has enjoyed a partnership with theAlpha Project, which serves over 4,000 homeless men, women, andchildren each day with affordablehousing, residential substance abusetreatment, employment trainingservices, and more. The AlphaProject has been a past recipient ofLas Patronas grants to acquire vansand pick-up trucks as well as makecommercial kitchen upgrades. Mostrecently Las Patronas funded a crewcab stake-bed truck to assist withtransitional employment and training of Alpha Project clientsthrough their Take Back the Streets program. This Alpha Projectprogram helps homeless individuals ‘soar’ to their optimum levelof self-sufficiency. Each August a team of Alpha Project Take Backthe Streets crew assists Las Patronas in the building of the JewelBall by helping load and unload our heaviest items. We absolutelycould not do it without their help!Traveling StoriesWith the help of Las Patronas, Traveling Stories transformsreluctant readers into eager bookworms all over San DiegoCounty by embracingthe concept of makingreading fun! TravelingStories was foundedwith the belief thatbooks are a necessity,not a luxury, and thatstrong literacy skills arethe most empoweringgift one can give. TheirStoryTent program delivers a sustainable, family-focused solutionfor improving literacy rates through engaging, social readingexperiences. The focus of the Las Patronas Mobile StoryTent iscreating positive experiences associated with reading, developingstrong critical thinking skills and building trust with the familieswho visit the program. The impact and visibility of TravelingStories programs have ‘taken off’ with this new van!

Legacy SocietyThe Legacy Society was established to honor and thank our members and community leaderswho have included the Las Patronas Endowment Fund in their charitable bequests and estateplans. They have done so by naming Las Patronas as beneficiary to wills, living trusts, IRAsor other life-income gifts. We are honored now to also welcome into the Legacy Society thosewho give a Direct Donation to the Las Patronas Endowment Fund of 10,000 or above. LegacySociety Members are recognized in Las Patronas’ directory, website, annual newsletter, JewelBall program book, and with special recognition at the Legacy Society appreciation event.Las Patronas announced its first ever Legacy Society Grant, which is made possible from theproceeds of the Las Patronas Endowment Fund. In addition to renewing partnershipswith the beneficiaries with whom we have long established relationships, we takegreat pride in granting “wings” to outstanding new organizations by funding assetscritical to the flight plan of their mission. In the 71-year history of Las Patronas, wehave funded nearly 20 million to more than 1,000 organizations!The theme of our 71st Jewel Ball, Taking Flight, conveys our aspiration to give lifeand lift to these inspirational non-profit organizations and the people they serve. Itsymbolizes perseverance and positive progress. It translates into keeping prematureinfants warm, giving a voice to a child in need, and helping theatergoers thoroughlyenjoy a performance with the gift of sound. Taking Flight represents supporting families who’ve fled their homelands and are still ontheir journey to find a productive way of life in our communities. It raises and strengthens youth development in the arts, after schoolprograms, and science education so the next generation of San Diegans can successfully pilot our wonderful city. It lights the runwayfor moving performances and experiences in our rich cultural arts.We are honored to continue this great history serving the San Diego community.
