The Year o f St. JosephOn December 8, 1870, The SacredCongregation of Rites promulgated adecree, which communicated the decisionof Pope Pius IX to declare St. Joseph thePatron of the Universal Church.The Vatican announced that this year,December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021would be a year dedicated to St. Joseph,husband of Mary and earthly father ofJesus Christ.Because of this noble dignity that Godconferred on His most faithful servant, the Church has always honouredand acclaimed Joseph next to his spouse, the Blessed Mother of God andhas implored his intersession in times of strife and unrest.The Holy Father, Pope Francis urged Catholics to turn to St. Joseph intimes of adversity. “Always invoke him, especially in difficult times andentrust your life to this Great Saint by praying:Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin. To youGod entrusted His only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christbecame man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guideto us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage and defendus from every evil. Amen.”As we witness the social upheaval in our time; the uprisings; the racialtensions; the injustices and the moral decay, it is of most importance thatwe emulate the role model and sanctity of St. Joseph. Where Is Your Focus?For We are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We donot know what to do, but our eyes are on you.(2 Chronicles 20:12)King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were surrounded by three majorarmies. They could have panicked, but instead Jehoshaphat called peopletogether to pray. He didn't deny the facts or act like the problem didn't exist. He admitted they were powerless, but he followed it up with, But oureyes are on You, God. You are all-powerful. When you keep God on thethrone, you'll be in peace when you could be panicked. You'll be praisingwhen you could be complaining. God told Jehoshaphat to march toward theenemy, and he appointed singers of praise to walk ahead of the army. TheLord worked a mighty victory, and they didn't even have to fight. Yourproblems may look too big, and you may be powerless, but you have themost powerful force in the universe on your side. Keep God on the throne.You may not know what to do, but when your eyes are upon Him, He'llmake a way where you don't see a way. Joel OsteenPage 7
