During her studies at ISU,Kassandra volunteered at a wildliferanch in South Africa and sheresearched business development inTanzania with a group of ISU faculty andstudents. Kassandra's focus at theUniversity of Iowa College of Law is onintellectual property law and her workthis summer is in that department.Olivia Slater graduated from theUniversity of Iowa with a bachelor'sdegree in linguistics, with an emphasison teaching English as a secondlanguage and a second major inSpanish. Olivia taught English in Spainfor a year prior to beginning law schoolat Drake University. She is on the staffof the Drake Law Review and is a LegalWriting Fellow.Daniela Talmadge earned abachelor's degree in political scienceand philosophy from CUNY-HunterCollege. She is on staff for the Journal ofCorporation Law and the Moot CourtBoard at the University of Iowa. Erin Lain,associate provost forcampus equity andinclusion at DrakeUniversity andassociate professorof law at Drake LawSchool, hasreceived the 2017Gertrude RushLainAward from the IowaOrganization of Women Attorneys(IOWA) and the Iowa Chapter of theNational Bar Association. The awardrecognizes individuals who demonstrateleadership in the community and in thelegal profession, as well as a concernfor human and civil rights. Erin hascommitted her career to studentservices at Drake University and herresponsibilities as associate provostfocus on campus equity and inclusion.Before being selected as associateprovost, Erin served as the assistantdean for academic services at DrakeLaw School for five years. Prior tobecoming the assistant dean, Laindirected the law school's academicsuccess program and was also anassistant director of admission. Asassistant dean, Lain secured grantfunding that allowed Drake Law Schoolto host the national Council on LegalEducation Opportunity (CLEO) Pre-LawSummer Institute in 2011 and 2016. PolkCounty is one of 72 counties in Iowa that alreadyprohibits weapons in courthouses. Now, the 27remaining counties will have to do the same.In his ruling released on Tuesday, June 20, ChiefJustice Mark Cady indicated that this ruling does notaffect peace officers. It does, however, ban visitorsfrom carrying weapons into courthouses.
