GENESIS LESSON 1This study of the Bible can be the most rewarding thing you have everdone. Each time you begin a study, ask in prayer for the Holy Spirit of Godto teach what the Scriptures are saying to you as an individual. The Bible, Greek La Biblia, means the books. It has been called thedivine library; God inspired Scriptures, divine writings, rules of faith, practice of man, and many other names! The Bible is God breathed. We will discover as we go along that Jesuswas, and is the Word. The Word took on the form of flesh and dwelt among us.The Bible is a collection of many writings written in many forms, bymany hands from many ages; but the author is God. Men of God were moved onby the Holy Spirit and penned God's thoughts. The latest writings are overseventeen hundred years old. In Europe, and here in the U.S., colleges andlower schools were formed with the Bible as the textbook. Most colleges werebuilt by people of God to further the understanding of the Bible and totrain ministers of God.The Bible is the most read book in the western world today. The Biblehas been translated many times and in many languages bynumerous people, men and women. Some of the first translators of the Bible had to give their lives fortheir work. The Bible was not read by just ordinary people many years ago. TheBible would be chained to the pulpit to keep just ordinary people fromreading it.The King James version of the Bible will be the onewe use in thestudies. Just simply, I understand it betterbecause it has been mycompanion for many years. Many of the modern translations attempt to bringJesus down to the level of man. I would not recommend them. The Bible was basically written in Hebrew and Greek. As many as fortydifferent penmen have been thought, by some, to be the writers of the Bible. Many questions are asked about who wrote many of them, becausetruly theauthor is God.It is difficult for us to imagine that when the first Bibles werewritten, there were no printing presses. Each copy was hand written. Alloriginal manuscripts have been lost, but the King James Version of the Biblegoes back to the early copies. It closely coincides with the manuscripts ofthe Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1948 in the caves near the Dead Sea.You might ask, "Why should I study the word of God? I am saved."Because God is the author, and the secrets of life are found in the Bible. Not only is it history of the past, but plans for the future. We cannot truly follow in God's will for our lives, unless we know whatHis will is.1

The Bible, then, could be thought of as a road map in this life thatdirects us to an eternity with God.The Bible is made up of 66 books - 39 Old Testament books and 27 NewTestament books. The Bible (Old and New Testament) is a book of History,Law, Poetry, and Prophecy. The Bible covers a period of about 4000 years. From the birth of Adamto the birth of Abraham was 1948 years (approx. 2000 years); from Abraham toJesus was approx. 2000 years, from Jesus to our present day is just under2000 years. You see, our six 1000 year days are about complete. Our work onearth will be done, and we will enter into our seventh 1000 year day. Theyear of the Sabbath. The Bible covers the Oriental, Babylonian, Assyrian, Chaldean, Persian,Egyptian, and the Roman Empire. There is a period of about 400 years between Malachi and Matthew. There are many ways to study the Bible: chronologically, literally, expositional, types and shadows, spiritually, historically, and many more.In this particular study, we will try to touch some on all of these, but our fundamental endeavor will be to try to understand the spiritualmessage. God is a Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship Him inSpirit and in Truth.II Timothy 3:16 "All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and[is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instructionin righteousness:"It is so easy to look at the literal word of God, and overlook thespiritual message. We must look beyond the literal to the spiritual.Mankind has a need to worship something, or someone besides himself, something that he can depend on in trouble. God, only, can fill that need. The Bible reveals God in his relationship to mankind. In our study, we will encounter several names of God, such as Jehovahand Elohim.God chose the Hebrew nation and its people to introduce himself to theworld. God's Book stands aside from all others in that it is not for justone age. It is as current today as it was the day it was written. We read in revelation Chapter 22 verses 18 and 19 that we must not addto, or take away from this word. Revelation 22:18 "For I testify unto everyman that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shalladd unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are writtenin this book:" Revelation 22:19 "And if any man shall take away from thewords of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of thebook of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which arewritten in this book."In our study, we will discover that God has order and wisdom throughoutthe Bible. God set up the laws of nature. God is the absolute authority in2

everything. So many religions would have us worship nature, and the thingsof the world, but we should worship the Creator, and not His creations.Secular humanism would make us God, but we are created, not theCreator. If you can just remember who God is, then all false religions willnot stand up to His standards. As we begin the study of the Bible, we will realize people like Moses(who wrote the first five books of the Bible) sometimes wrote about thingsthat happened long before they were born. We say, "How could this beaccurate?" Then, remember God is the author, Moses the penman. My ownpersonal belief is that God filled Moses' mind with the knowledge of thethings He would place in Moses' writings during the forty days and nightsthat Moses was on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments, When Mosescame down from the mountain, The Bible says, that his (Moses') head was sobright that people could not look at him for fear of blindness. A cloth hadto be put over his head to dim the light. The light of the Knowledge of Godwas so great that his head was shining. He had been with God. We mentionedbefore that the Scriptures were given to holy men of God as the Holy Spiritmoved upon them.Manyis not soThe BibleBible hasof the books in the Bible are not in chronological order. The timeimportant because Scripture is given for all ages to learn from.is like reading the morning paper. The only difference is, theanswers to life's problems.Promises of blessing are throughout the Bible if we do the will of God,but curses abundant, if we do not the will of God.I encourage you to memorize the books of the Bible and familiarizeyourself with their location. Old and New Testament are intertwined, and wewill be jumping from one book to the other in this study.God's purpose in making us was so that He could fellowship with us. Wecan truly fellowship with God today if we study His Word and let it ministerto us in truth. Then invite Him inside of us to make all the decisions thatare too difficult for us.The New Testament is the last will and testament of Jesus Christ. Wemust know what He has stored up for us before we can collect.3

GENESIS LESSON 2We began a fundamental study of the Bible in the last lesson, and wewill be laying foundation in this lesson. The twenty-four books of the Hebrew Canon are actually the same as thethirty-nine that we recognize. They just group many of the prophets into onebook. The early Christians did not accept the Apocrypha (the books writtenbetween Malachi and Matthew) as part of the inspired Scripture and mostBibles today do not include them. The authorized King James Version of the Bible which we will use forour text book was translated over 350 years ago. We will not go into thetechnicalities of the translating of the literal point of view as much asthe spiritual. Many religious people of the world today do not recognize any of theBible except the first five books, (The Pentateuch or Torah). For our study here. I will explain from the very beginning that Ibelieve that the entire 66 books of the Bible, Old and New Testament, arethe inspired (God breathed) Word of God.The Old Testament is pointing forward to the birth of Jesus Christ. TheOld Testament "prophetic books" and the New Testament is speaking of thesecond coming of Christ and the culmination of the ages.Galatians 3:24 "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us]unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." Galatians 3:25 "But afterthat faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster."You see the Old Testament was given so we would realize our need for aSaviour. We will get into more of the historical things as we progress with thelessons."Genesis" means beginnings. This book was believed to have been writtenby Moses. Genesis is the first book of the Pentateuch or law. The wordPentateuch means five books. These five books of Moses are really a collection of books of the OldTestament. The history of a nation (Hebrew) is traced throughout the OldTestament, until the prophetic writers and the history of the followers ofJesus Christ, are briefly presented in the Acts of the Apostles. The OldTestament ends with the prophetic books, and the New Testament also endswith a book of prophecy. You see, God believes in order, and His Book is avery good example of that order. The first statement in Genesis "In the beginning God created the heavenand the earth" tells so much. We realize from this statement that there was5

nothing before God. He is the Eternal One. It tells us that God is allpowerful. The statement "In the beginning" lets us know for sure that nothingexisted before God. He is the great "I Am".This statement denies the belief of many gods. It denies the theory ofultimately becoming God. It denies the evolution where things just evolve."In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" lets us knowthat we must not worship nature because it was created. We must worship theCreator not His creation. In John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,and the Word was God." John 1:2 "The same was in the beginning with God."John 1:3 "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thingmade that was made."You see by this that God the Father's plans were carried out by God theWord (Jesus). Now, if you will look with me, we will see that there is, was, andalways will be three. I John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record inheaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."You see in St. John 4:24 We read in Jesus' own words, because it iswritten in red in the Bible. "God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship himmust worship [him] in spirit and in truth."You see the Spirit is(embodiments) of that Spirit.one, buttherearethreemanifestationsThe very purpose of this particular study is to try to understand thespiritual message that is in the Bible. We have a tendency to confuse thephysical with the spiritual, but we must train ourselves to look beyond theliteral and into the spiritual. If God is Spirit, as His word says, then Hewrote His Bible from a spiritual standpoint.Time is of no essence in the spiritual world. That is why this Biblelives on and is current to every one of us today. In II Peter 3:8 We read"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with theLord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."You see God is not as concerned with the literal as He is in gettingHis point understood. We, too, are a spirit and our spirit and the Spirit of God are whatmake us like God.Let's go back now and look again at Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning Godcreated the heaven and the earth."You see by this one statement that God is the Creator. Satan is adestroyer, God is the Creator. So many people today are concerned about the earth, and how it is beingdestroyed. This is the work of Satan.6

The earth and the heaven did not just evolve. They were a creation ofGod. God created both from nothing. The carnal mind cannot accept thisstatement. But if you have trouble believing this, you should not continuethis Bible study, because this one statement is the foundational rock forthe entire study. This sentence "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth"is the greatest miracle ever performed. If we believe this one statement, weshould have no difficulty in believing the rest. Our carnal minds believeonly the things we can see, but our spirits cry out for the supernatural. In Hebrews 11:1-3 We read about the difference between the literal andthe spiritual. Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:2 "For by it the eldersobtained a good report." Hebrews 11:3 "Through faith we understand that theworlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen werenot made of things which do appear."You see, the Bible itself explains to us that this did not just appear, but God spoke them into existence.Scientist can go back so far, but no further with their findings. They, too, like us, are the created and must look to the Creator as the source ofeverything. In Acts 17:28 "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; ascertain also of your own poets have said, “For we are also his offspring."In the Words "In the beginning" there is quite a play of words. You seeit does not say at the beginning, which is more specific. The word "In"means surrounded by, so you see this, too, is a Spiritual word. Surroundedby the beginning God created. It is difficult for the carnal mind to understand something or someonewho has no beginning and no end. This very God that we are speaking of hasno end. He created us on a timetable here on this earth. But when we leavethis earth, time will not be important any longer for us either, for weshall slip into eternity with God.In Revelation 10:6 "And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, whocreated heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and thethings that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, thatthere should be time no longer:"As we go into this study, please take note of the following numbers andtheir meaning. I am not a numerologist and do not intend to bring thatteaching, but a spiritual message lies in some of the numbers. The followingare some I would like to take some special note of:1357101240-the unity of Godthe plurality of God or Godgracespiritually completeworld governmentrepresentative of the wholetime of testing24687-agreementuniversalmannew beginnings

There are many other numbers and all have a spiritual significance. Butthese will be used several times in this study, and I think it wise for usto be familiar with their spiritual meaning. Also there are several metals which will be predominate in them.Silver - redemptiongold- purity of Godbrass or bronze - judgmentThe three colors that are known as Godly colors are:red - blood or lifeblue - heavenlypurple - royaltyAlso:white speaks of purity or cleanliness or righteousnesswood speaks of worldlyseas are sometimes symbolic of peoplesAs we go on, I will try to bring out through the guidance of the HolySpirit of God many more of the spiritual meanings. My experience, in studying the word, has been that the more I study andread the Scriptures, the more God reveals to me. Don't feel badly if youneed to read a particular Scripture eight or ten times before you reallygrasp the meaning. God, the Holy Spirit, is our teacher and will bring us tothe knowledge of God if we do not faint.St. John 14:26 tells us that our teacher is the Holy Ghost, "But theComforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name,he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."So you can easily see the three in the above Scripture. Father, HolyGhost, and the He, (in the Scripture above) is Jesus Christ (the Word),because the Scripture again is written in red.In the next lesson we will get into the actual study of the firstchapter of Genesis. Read the first chapter at least six times before thenext lesson. Meditate on what it is saying.8

Genesis 2 4.35.36.37.38.39.40.How many books in the Canon are actually the same as the 39 of ourOld Testament? Is the Apocrypha part of most Bible translations today? What point of view will this study be based on.What are two other names for the first five books of the Biblebesides the books of Moses? In Galatians 3:24,25, what do the Scripturestell us the law was? What does the Old Testament tell us we are in need of?What does the word Genesis mean? Were the books of the Bible just a hodgepodge of writings, or didsome higher power put order in this arrangement? What existed before God?Why should we not worship nature and the things of nature?God the Father's plans are carried out by whom? Give Scripture. In St. John 5:7, how many bear witness in heaven? Name them. When something is written in red in the Bible, what does it mean?In St. John 4:24, what is God?What standpoint must we believe the Bible is written in by God?In the first statement, "In the beginning God created", what mustwe assume about God versus Satan? What did God use to create the heaven and earth? What statement is the foundational rock of this study? What does our carnal mind believe in?What does the spirit cry out for?In Hebrews chapter 11, what is faith? The scientist ultimately must do what? What book of the Bible do we read "for in Him we live and move andhave our being"?"In" means what? What will happen to us and our timetable when we die? What does the number "3" mean? What does the number "4" mean? What does the number "5" mean? What does the number "6" mean? What does the number "7" mean? What does the number "8" mean? What does the number "10" mean? What does the number "40" mean? What does silver mean? What does gold mean? What does brass or bronze mean? What are the three Godly colors? What does white mean? What are seas sometimes symbolic of?St. John 14:26 tells us what, about the Holy Ghost?9

GENESIS LESSON 3Again we will mention that Genesis means beginning, and it is the firstof the five books of Moses. It is a book of origin or beginnings. Genesisdescribes the creation, the absolute origination of the earth through thespoken Word of God.Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."As we said last lesson, this leaves no doubt that God is an eternalbeing. It also leaves no doubt that God himself created the earth.God,mentioned in Genesis 1:1, is actually Elohim (a plural word).AnotherMeaning of Elohim is, the highest being to be feared, Elohim indicates morethan one involved in the act of creation. Elohim (high and mighty), Ibelieve this high and mighty Eternal one is actually God the Father, God theWord, and God the Holy Spirit. All, in fact, God. A singular verb is usedoften with the plural word Elohim indicating that there not only is atrinity of beings, but they are one in Spirit. The three words used in the creation are different, but all translatedcreated (Bara, Yatzar, and Asah). Bara means to create from nothing and isused in Genesis 1:1. Some believe in the gap theory between verse 1 and 2.Verse 1 is the original creation of the heaven and earth.Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness[was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the faceof the waters."Many translators believe that instead of "was" it shouldhave been translated "became" without form or void. Since the same word thatwas translated here was, is translated in all other Scriptures became.(John Vabohu). The same words in Isaiah 34:11 depict desolation anddesecration of something already populated, but depopulated by thedestruction.I have just touched ona populated earth which wasVerse 2 could read, "Anddarkness was on the face offace of the waters."thismadethetheto let you know that there could have beendesolate between verse 1 and 2 of Genesis.earth became without form and void; anddeep. And the Spirit of God moved upon theFor our study here, it really does not matter whether there was ahabitation of the earth before Genesis 1:2. We are not looking into theliteral, but into the spiritual. We do know that in Genesis 1:2 the earth had no form and was void oflife and that darkness prevailed. If there were a fallen race, then thedarkness could indicate a presence of evil.We know that God does not create desolation. We also know that God'sintention from the beginning was for the earth to be inhabited. The wholeplan was to fellowship with mankind. We also know that scientist say that there are markings of two greatcatastrophic floods which took place. This also indicates that there couldvery well have been two floods.10

As we get on in Genesis, we will read where God's promise is that therewill never again be a destruction of the earth by water, as if Noah's floodwas not the only one.The Egyptian point of view about creation is approximately what istaught in our schools today. There is another view which just believes that the earth was a gaseoussubstance before verse two.As I said for our study here, it is unimportant which theory is true.We just know that in verse two the earth had no form and was void of alllife. Satan is death, not life. Nothing. Plant or animal, can exist withoutlight. All power, energy, and life come from the Light, which is JesusChrist our Lord. He is the source of all energy. He is not a light but theLight. Jesus called Himself "The Light of the world".You see the heaven and the earth are not eternal. God created them. Weread in Revelation that this heaven and earth shall pass away. and therewill be a new earth.Enough has been said about verse two. In another study of Genesis, at alater date. we might expound more, but at present in the Spirit study wemust go on.Genesis 1:3 "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."I believe this Light, that is mentioned here, is the Eternal Light. The source of all light is Jesus Christ. This Light had to be applied to theearth to give all plant and animal life the power to be.When God said "Let there be light” in this particular Scripture, it wasunlike the other "let there be" Scriptures. This Scripture was anapplication of a pre-existing light being applied to this earth. You see,Jesus, like God the Father is eternal. He or His Light was not created. Itexisted from all of eternity. God just applied that eternal power of Light(Jesus Christ) to the earth. For anything to live, this power of Light hadto be applied. The Scripture itself says "there was light". Jesus calledHimself the Light of the world. In John 1:5 we read "And the light shinethin darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." In verse seven we readthat John the Baptist came for a witness of the Light. John 1:7 "The samecame for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all [men] through himmight believe." John 1:8 "He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bearwitness of that Light." John 1:9 "[That] was the true Light, which lightethevery man that cometh into the world." You see, Jesus (The Light) does awaywith darkness.John 1:4 "In him was life; and the life was the light of men."You see, from these Scriptures, that not only is Jesus the source ofall Light, but is actually the source of Life as well. You see, reallywithout Jesus there is on life.I could go on and on in this area, but I believe we have establishedthe fact that Jesus (The Light) is the source of all Life.11

Genesis 1:4 "And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God dividedthe light from the darkness."If we are spiritually looking at verse four, we would call theseparation of good from evil, as well as the separation of day and night. You see, darkness is the absence of light. Light can do away with darkness.Darkness cannot overcome light. I have used the example of a lamp as a goodillustration of the source of light. You see, the lamp can not illuminateuntil it is plugged into a source of energy. The source of energy, or powerof light, surges through the fixture (lamp) and we see the light in thefixture holding the light. We will get into this further as we get to thefourth day of creation. For our study here, we must remember that the sourceof energy or light is Jesus Christ our Lord. The reflection of light can beseen in many things. but Jesus is the source. We will see that this is theonly way that the Bible can work out not creating the same things on twoseparate days. We will see in the next lesson that on day four God actuallycreates the containers that light is held in; not creative Light.Genesis 1:5 "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he calledNight. And the evening and the morning were the first day."Before God applied the Light to the earth there was darkness. As Isaid, Light does away with darkness. God's Light shined in the day. in IIPeter 1:19 "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do wellthat ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until theday dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:"You see, Jesus is the Light of Day dawning in our hearts that drivesall darkness away. God's system for this earth is evening and morning makingup a day. Actually the reverse of how we compute a day. The Jewish peoplestart their Sabbath, Friday at 6 p.m. and continues until 6 p.m. Saturday. This first day has been a controversy ever since it has been written. Somebelieve 1000 years day, and some believe even longer. It really doesn'tmatter for our study here. All we need to know is that it really happenedand God did it.In every day when God had completed the work for that day, Hisstatement would be that it was good. Man, through the direction of Satan hascome very close to destroying the world. God is a Builder, Satan is adestroyer. In our study here, I would like for us to see that the creation of theheaven and the earth in verse one, and the application of Light in versethree seem to be a separate occasion. In verse one, the only indication wehave when heaven and earth were created is that it happened in thebeginning. We must dwell on Genesis because a true and firm revelation of faithand God's grace begins right here at the beginning. God's grace in that hewanted fellowship with mankind so much that He would go to the trouble tocreate the world and everything in it for man's use. Then the faith comes in on our part. We must believe that God's Wordsare true and that the world was created by Elohim God.12

GENESIS LESSON 4In the last lesson we learned about the application of light on thisearth giving all things the power to be.In this lesson, we will begin with:Genesis 1:6 "And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst ofthe waters, and let it divide the waters from the

The Bible, then, could be thought of as a road map in this life that directs us to an eternity with God. The Bible is made up of 66 books - 39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books. The Bible (Old and New Testament) is a book of History, Law, Poetry, and Prophecy. The Bible covers a period of about 4000 years. From the birth of Adam
