The National 4-H Recognition Model includes five types of recognition. It isimportant for adults who work with 4-H'ers to provide appropriate recognitionto all participants. Find ways to recognize 4-H members in various ways. Participation: This type of recognition program emphasizes the importance ofacknowledging young people who have been involved in 4-H educationalexperiences as a first step in building a positive self-concept. Progress toward Self-Set Goals: Parents and other adults can help youth setrealistic goals. Recognition for progress toward self-set goals, no matter howsmall, is an integral part of this type of recognition. Achievement of Standards of Excellence: Standards of excellence areestablished by experts in a given area. By measuring personal progress againststandards of excellence, youth can gain insight into their own efforts andabilities. Peer Competition: This type of recognition subjectively identifies, in aconcrete time and place, the best team or individual. It is a strong motivator forsome youth, but is inappropriate for youth under age eight. Cooperation: Learning and working together promotes high achievement.Cooperation may take advantage of all the skills represented in the group, aswell as, the process by which the group approaches the learning task/goal.Everyone is rewarded! The success of the 4-H awards program relies on continued support of our sponsors.Consider donating to awards to recognize youth for their accomplishment. Please make checks payable to:MC4-H AwardsPlease return the donations you collect to:Malheur County 4-H Awardsat the OSU Extension Office710 SW 5th, OntarioThis donation is tax deductible! The committee will mail a receipt to all donors.2
