Principal’s Note:Every year, we have the absolute delight of welcoming around 1,000 kindergarten students into ourschools. Our youngest students bring an eagerness and enthusiasm that is a daily inspiration to all of usat Elkhart Community Schools. The energy, excitement, and creativity of every kindergarten student whowalks in our doors is one of the many reasons we are so passionate about education. Let’s Power Up forkindergarten!Step 1: TRAINING!Children start learning as soon as they are born. For the firstyears of their lives, parents and caretakers are the most importantteachers. Every day, there are teachable moments you can useas you help your child prepare for school!Here are some ways you can help your child prepare for school:Read books togetherEstablish a regular evening routine and bedtimeEstablish a morning routine and empower your child to exploreindependence with getting dressed, brushing teeth, brushing hair,eating breakfast, tying shoes, remembering coat and backpackPractice counting - count the items you see around youMeet and play with other children their ageFind and name the letters of the alphabet everywhere you goTalk about what kindergarten will be likePractice respecting others’ property and using good manners.Practice sharing with other childrenUse scissors to practice cuttingUse crayons to drawRemember: on time, every day!Starting in kindergarten, too many missed dayscan cause your child to fall behind, as we startworking on life-long critical skills like reading.Attending school every day will help your childgrow confident, and feel better about schooland themselves!

Registration is now open andregistering is easy!Save time! Register online: Visit http://elkhart.k12.in.us/kindergarten After you have registered online, please bring copies of theinformation below to the school office.Register in person: Visit your child’s school (see list ) during office hours. We encourage you to bring your incoming kindergarten student,so they can see the building and meet the office staff!What do I need to bring with me? Child’s birth certificate Immunization records Your proof of residency/addressHave you heardabout Kindergarten Camp &Transition to Kindergarten?Register by June 6 and you will be eligibleto attend our kindergarten readinessprogram at your school!
