IntroductionOne of the primary goals of The Wyoming’ Department of Education’s (WDE) Career and Technical Education(CTE) team is to increase the number of industry-recognized credentials and certificates (IRC) for studentsenrolled in CTE courses in secondary and post-secondary schools. Many U.S. jobs will require some form of secondary or post-secondary credentials or certifications. If currenttrends continue, the nationwide supply of workers with relevant degrees and credentials in 2025 will be 23million short of the 62 million high-quality job openings American employers must fill.To help Wyoming’s CTE educators identify the specific credentials and certificates that employers are seeking, the WDE has developed an initial list of Industry-recognized credentials and certifications based on extensiveanalysis of Wyoming’s labor market data and on detailed feedback from employers and educators statewide.A credential is defined as “a recognized degree, diploma, certificate or certification awarded for an occupation.”Industry-recognized credentials have the following characteristics: Valued and preferred by employers Portable – skills learned are transferable and provide broad opportunities S tackable – skills learned may lead to opportunities for continuous or advanced training and education Lead to higher wages, career advancement, and/or increased job securityThis initial Industry-recognized Credential List will be reviewed and updated each biennium by the WDE CTEteam in conjunction with our educators and business and industry partners.School district administration and teachers may submit IRCs to the Wyoming Department of Education(WDE) for consideration. Please read the entire application carefully before beginning to ensure the credentialmeets all of the requirements and that the necessary data and evidence are available.Industry-Recognized Credential and Certification ApplicationInterested parties are invited to continue offering comments and suggestions to continually improve the list’scontent and accuracy. Comments should be directed to Ilaine Brown at ilaine.brown1@wyo.gov.Please note that the credentials and certifications on this list are the only IRCs that are eligible forreimbursement by the WDE to school districts through Perkins V funding. The programs of study must belisted on the approved Perkins V application. Please use the provided IRC invoice to receive reimbursement.Wyoming Guide to Industry-Recognized Credentials and Certifications 1

Frequently Asked QuestionsCan I use different IRCs in the same program of study for students?Yes, you may choose different IRCs for each of your students in the same program of study. WDE realizesthat each of the students are unique in their needs and career aspirations. However, the IRC that is givenMUST be selected from the career cluster from the associated program of study. For example: AHospitality and Tourism-Restaurant Management program of study has 20 students. Fifteen (15) of thestudents are interested in going into Restaurant management and are prepared to take ServSafe Manager Food Safety. The remainder of the class are not interested in going into management. You cangive the 5 remaining students the Guest Service Gold Tourism Certification (AHLEI) which is a highlyregarded customer service certification. How does WDE build the list for approved Industry-Recognized Credentials? The WDE adopted a framework for determining industry-recognized credentials that qualify forreimbursement from Perkins V funding. WDE review applications in conjunction with the biennial Perkinsgrant year. When an application is received for an IRC to be added to the approved list it is placed on the survey thatis sent to local business and industry partners through their associations, the Wyoming Business Council,Workforce Services, and other types of partnerships. When the feedback is received from the businessand industry partners, their feedback is forwarded through a survey to the teachers in the correlatedprograms of study for review and feedback. That information from both business and industry as well as educators are compiled and analyzed alongwith the JobsEQ market analysis. The resulting IRCs will be added to the list of approved credentials. How does my district get reimbursed for IRCs that have been successfully completed in aPerkins V-approved program of study?Once a student has BOTH “C” courses on a student’s transcript, the district will be notified that thestudent must be assessed and successfully complete the WDE approved IRC that was listed for thatprogram of study on the district’s Perkins V approved application.Upon successful completion of the WDE approved IRC the district shall upload a copy of the achievedIRC into the WyCTE Data Collection. After the WyCTE portion of the process is complete, the district will
