Always stop the engine before checking or topping up thecoolant or oil. NEVER open cap on top of header tank when the engineis at operating temperature. 1213I ]103.CDK 11.05.96General guidelinesUseGeneral guidelines for useImplementing the following recommendations will result inlonger life and better performance and more economicaloperation of your engine.3 Carry out the maintenance described regularly, includingthe 'Daily procedures before starting'. Use anti - freeze in the engine coolant all year long, thishelps prevent corrosion as well as protecting against frostdamage. For specifications see page 78. Never run the engine without a thermostat. Use a good quality lubricating oil. For specifications seepage 76. Use a good quality diesel fuel that is free of water andother pollutants. nnPreparationUsePreparation the engine for useBefore starting the engine for the firsttime, the following procedures must becarried out:\3Filling with engine oilFilling gearbox with oilAs a rule engine are delivered empty ofoil.Fill the engine with oil through the fillerneck on top of the valve cover, forquantity and specification see page 76.Fill the gearbox with oil, for quantityand specification, see page 76.Check the oil level with the dipstick,see page 46.Check the oil level with the dipstick*,see page 32.* The dipstick must be calibrated seeinstallation manual.19Uitgevoerd et DMC CALAMUS SLW3LJ
n0UsePreparationWater heaterCOOLANT v),3If a water heater is connected to theengine and this heater is positionedabove the upper side of the engine thanbleeding of the heater will not take placeautomatically!
