Often thisinsurance is an employee benefit provided atlow or no cost. The existence of this coveragemight convince someone that personally ownedlife insurance is not necessary.Page 1 of 7

Archbishop Fulton J. SheenKnights of Columbus, Council No. 7612CommuniquéMay 2018But only having “through work” life insurancecan leave your family vulnerable. Most grouplife insurance policies are limited in amount, andare tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped and the capmay be dangerously low when compared to yourfamily’s actual needs. In fact, a detailedanalysis that evaluates your specific situationwill likely show that any employer providedcoverage falls short. In addition, the amount of group lifeinsurance is almost always reduced, sometimesdrastically, when you retire. You could, one day, find yourself without coverage, and if your healthhas changed (which it will as you age) you mightfind yourself unable to secure individualprotection, or it may have become prohibitivelyexpensive. While employee group life insurance canhelp, it does not replace the need for individuallyowned life insurance. I am available to meetwith you to provide a no cost needs analysis soyou know where you stand.
