Fall/Winter 2016On the Road to SolvingSenior Transportation ChallengesWheelchair Accessible Rides Coming Soon!Interfaith Caregivers of Ozaukee County has been serving seniors and adults with disabilities for over 23years. Transportation services are provided throughout Ozaukee County, as well as Milwaukee, Waukesha,Washington, and Sheboygan Counties to address barriers to access. When public transportation is unavailableor inaccessible, Interfaith Ozaukee helps removes those barriers. Transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, food pantries, and exercise services are provided at no charge by InterfaithOzaukee volunteers utilizing their own personal vehicles—until now!Interfaith Ozaukee is extremelyproud to announce the acquisition ofthe first-ever wheelchair accessiblevehicle. As we continue to build ourfleet, these vehicles will significantlyimpact how Interfaith Ozaukeefulfills the mission of keeping seniorsindependent in their homes. If you would like to join the team ofvolunteer drivers, please contact ouroffice at 262-376-5362 orwww.interfaithozaukee.orgThe trend among the growing senior population is their desire to remain independent and thriving in theirhomes or communities for as long as they are able. This is a healthy outcome for a community provided thereis access to necessary healthcare and other essential services. According to the World Health Organization, transportation is a determinant of health because of the role it plays in independence and how it shapesaccess to resources.Programs for seniors will be ineffective if they cannot access them and this also serves as the greatest barrierthat keeps seniors from accessing necessary healthcare. The future of Interfaith Ozaukee transportation willbe taking broader paths to support the community through this initiative made possible through grants andsupport from several community partners*.

Agency ProfileSolving the Senior Transportation Problem with Your HelpThe Interfaith agencies of Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha and Milwaukee has the state’s largestcombined population of senior citizens, age 65 years and older. Many have limited access totransportation and services due to fixed incomes, lack of community-wide transportation systems, andinsufficient family and neighborly supports. An unfortunate result is that many of those seniors struggle tomanage their healthcare and nutrition needs. As this region’s population of seniors grows in numbers andseniors are living well into their 90’s, the need for efficient and affordable services will continue to grow. These four Interfaith agencies have partnered and committed to a joint approach to increasing volunteerrecruitment in an effort to address the current rise in services requested. The projected growing numbersof seniors through a multi-county initiative called Drive.Give.Serve will aid in developing a consistentmessage for volunteer recruitment and best support our seniors. How You Can Help:Help us distribute Drive.Give.Serve information to Your Place of Worship Business Groups Service Clubs Community GroupsVisit DriveGiveServe.org orcall 211 to learn more Your Employer Call Interfaith direct at262-376-5362Ozaukee County has the oldest popula tion in southeastWisconsin, with 17.5% of people over age 65.
