The wide range oflow-loss chokes in energy efficiency classes B2 andB1 from Tridonic covers all the relevant applicationsand ensures that the lamps are operated as specified.Optimised for specified lamp operationEC magnetic chokes ensure that the preheatingcurrent, ignition voltage and lamp current all remainwithin the specified tolerances for optimum operationof fluorescent lamps.Long lamp life can only be achieved by preheatingthe electrodes before the ignition voltage is appliedto the lamp. The EC units heat to precisely the righttemperature because if the preheat current is too lowor too high the lamp electrodes will be destroyedand the life of the lamp cut short.The chokes ensure a sufficiently high ignition voltageafter the preheat phase by opening a glow starter orelectronic starter. Design for long lifeBecause of their high-quality insulation material,coil core and copper wire, chokes in the EC seriesfrom Tridonic achieve a nominal life of approximately 100,000 hours of operation, in other wordsabout ten years of constant use at a winding temperature of 130 C (tw 130 C).The winding temperature is the ambient temperatureplus the increase in temperature due to the powerconsumption of the unit.
