Stone County Humane SocietyJanuary 2022This duo was considered “Hard to Adopt”. They were afraid ofstrangers and would not let anyone, except staff, near them. They had been at the shelter for 2 years when our prayers wereanswered. A woman decided to take Desi home and give him achance. It took 2 weeks for her to be able to pet him. Soonafter that, he opened up and became a joy. After Desi settled in,this woman came back for Lucy. Lucy warmed up a lot fastersince Desi was already comfortable there. Desi and Lucy werereunited and now live a wonderful life in a home, together.Ramona arrived at the shelter in bad shape. She was only 4 yearsold, but looked like 10. She disliked being in the cat cottage somuch that she sat with her nose to the wall and barely moved. Shewas depressed, not grooming herself and barely eating or drinking. This broke our hearts! We got word out that Ramona desperatelyneeded a forever home. Our prayers were soon answered. Nowknown as “Mona-Moo”, this special kitty has made a hugeturnaround! She has gained weight, grooms herself and strutsaround without a care in the world. Her adopter describes her asloving and sociable and is so happy they found each other.Lola suffered from fear aggression. She was aggressive towardsother dogs and strangers because she was scared. Workingher with other dogs and trying to introduce her to potentialadopters seemed impossible. She eventually warmed up tosome dogs and made friends. People came to meet her, butshe growled at them and they wouldn’t give her a chance. Alovely family from Norfork contacted us to see if they couldfoster her. Lola soon let down her guard and became one ofthe family. She even let them bathe her, which we thoughtwas not possible. Lola has found her forever family and nowenjoys playing cards and dress up. Her shirt says “SpoiledRotten” and that is exactly what she is!3 P age

Stone County Humane SocietyJanuary 2022Our shelter has many animals with special emotional needs. There are a lot of dogswho are so afraid of strangers that they either act aggressively (out of fear) or shakeso badly the people say no thanks. Most of them are the calmest and sweetest animals.anyone looking for a companion to chooseone of these “Special Needs” or “Hard to Adopt” animals. Theyare loyal to no end and have a lot of love to share. It mighttake a few visits to the shelter or a week or so of fostering, but you won’t regret giving these precious souls a chance. The Paws in Prison program is a great experience for both the dogs and inmates.Dogs in the program receive obedience training and often learn tricks as well.PIP trained dogs are highly sought after.-23 SCHS Dogs were adopted from the PIP Program in 2021-6 P age

I have always wanted to workwith animals and becoming the manager of a NO KILL shelter has been sorewarding. I always say it’s bitter-sweet when a pet finds their forever home;we want them to live a great life outside of the shelter, but we also don’t wantto see them go. Nothing warms my heart more than witnessing one of ouranimals thoroughly enjoying life with their new family. One thing that hurts myheart, however, is when people in our community talk poorly of our organization.I just have to remind myself that SCHS was built on donated land with donatedmoney from generous people who share our love of animals. I am so gratefulthat we have such amazing supporters and a clean, fun environment for theanimals to be housed in. Wishing everyone HEALTH and HAPPINESS in 2022!-Stacy Rule, SCHS Manager7 P age

Stone County Humane SocietyJanuary 2022Louie and Louise were found in a pile of trash at therecycling center when they were babies. They are visually impaired due to an illness they contracted. The pair was adopted as kittens, but their home environmentchanged and it was too loud for them; they were very scared. They are now 3 years old and looking for a new home. One would think they might be skittish because they are blind, but that is not the case. They love affection and move aroundjust fine once they learn their environment. They would do well in a quiet environment with no other pets. They are litter box trained, declawed and ready for adoption. They must be adopted together.10 P a g e
