Powerful designResealable safety valveA 50-PSI vent lets gases escape, then automatically reseals, so there’s norisk of excessive gas accumulation within the battery, or “dry out” failurefrom repeated recharges.Pure lead platesMade from 99.99% pure lead, CYCLON battery plates are extremely thin,so they offer more surface area than conventional batteries –and far more power.AGM plate separatorHigh-purity acid is absorbed right into the Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM)plate separators, so the CYCLON battery provides leak-proof operationin any position.Steel can enclosureThe CYCLON battery’s metal outer jacket offers extreme shock, vibration, temperature, and flammability protection.One-piece plastic coverDirect thru-the-wallintercell connectionsOne-piece plastic case4www.enersys.comPublication No: US-CYC-SG-003 - June 2008

Features and BenefitsSealed pure-lead cells were invented by the GatesCorporation in 1973. The purity of the materials used is keyto supporting the CYCLON battery's performance benefits.A longer service life, meaning fewer replacements and thecost associated with it, combined with higher reliability andfewer system failures, result in a lower long-term cost ofownership to the end user or equipment owner. What are the advantages of EnerSys technology?1. Power density - Per unit weight, the power provided bypure lead products offers the greatest high-rate powerdensity for your energy dollar. CYCLON battery's greatervolumetric power allows engineers to consider moreenergy-supporting features or design smaller, lighter packages. At high-rate and pulse discharges, EnerSys CYCLONbatteries offer the best performance value whencompared with competitive product in applicationsat less than 100 minutes of discharge.2. Cycle life - Compared to competitive lead products(offering up to 200 full cycles), pure lead batteries provide50% to 200% greater full cycle capability. CYCLONbatteries will deliver up to 300 cycles (100% DOD, C/5).And, because CYCLON batteries incorporate a highvent-pressure design, EnerSys products experienceno “dry out” failure mode from repeated recharges.3. Float life - Conventional sealed-lead batteries varygreatly in specified standby life: from three to six yearsat 20 C, C/20. CYCLON battery Single Cells, however, offer a ten-year design life at 25 C, C/5, to 80% of ratedcapacity. At 20 C, CYCLON battery Single Cells offer afifteen-year design life.5. Safety - Since CYCLON battery Single Cells andMonoblocs emit minimal to no gassing under normalcharging conditions they are safe for installation inoffices, aircraft cabins, hospitals or any other environmentoccupied by human beings. Underwriters Laboratories(UL) recognizes all CYCLON cells and batteries ascomponents.6. Widest temperature range - Due to the products' strongconstruction and high vent pressures, these cells willmaintain their performance and physical parameters inextreme conditions. At high temperatures, the chemicalreaction in a battery that causes aging is accelerated.Pure lead technology resists that chemical reaction moreeffectively than alloyed lead, thus allowing a battery tohave a longer service life. At high temperatures, whenconventional lead batteries experience internal moistureloss from venting and case side wall distention, theCYCLON Single Cell battery, with its steel can (jacket)and 50psi vent, does not experience these life-robbingconditions. CYCLON batteries have twice the deliveredcapacity of conventional sealed-lead batteries attemperatures below -20 C, offering unparalleledlow-temperature performance. Our batteries have thinner plates, and therefore greaterplate surface area than conventional sealed-lead, thickplate batteries. As a result our batteries can reach a highstate of charge in fast-charging applications in one-fourththe time of conventional, sealed-lead, thick-plate batteries. This is 50% to 100% overall better performance for yourenergy dollar.7. Rugged construction - Due to their strong externalpackaging and internal pure lead composition, EnerSysproducts can withstand not only extreme temperaturesbut also harsh usage.4. High stable voltage delivery - The high stable voltagedelivery of a pure lead battery results from its low internalresistance. The flat discharge voltage profile of ourbatteries, similar to nickel cadmium, combined with ourproducts' low internal resistance, means our batteries areable to discharge and recharge their power more quicklyand efficiently and offer greater application flexibility. Thepure lead construction also gives more watts-per-unitweight at high discharge rates.CYCLON battery Single Cells are available housedin cases constructed of UL 94V-0 rated material. TheCYCLON battery Single Cell itself is in a metal jacketgiving added flammability protection. CYCLON batteriesare shock and vibration resistant, designed to offer highertolerance levels to meet demanding applications, includingthose in commercial and outdoor applications. Thecompany's focus on battery-case integrity and high ventpressure, coupled with pure lead's low grid-corrosion rate, means CYCLON battery cells and Monoblocs provide thelongest service life possible.CYCLON Battery Single Cell/Monobloc comparison chartDesignConstructionOperating rangeVoltagesSingle Cells3 atmventing pressureMetal outer case &spiral construction-65 C to 80 C2 volt cellsMonobloc0.5 atmventing pressurePlastic outer case &spiral construction-40 C to 40 C4 & 6 volt unitswww.enersys.comPublication No: US-CYC-SG-003 - June 20085

The pure lead advantageEach plastic Monobloc consists of Single Cell elements, internally connected to provide a 4 or 6 volt unit.Monoblocs or Single Cells can be connected in seriesor parallel to achieve the required voltage or capacity.Monoblocs and Single Cells are supplied with spadeterminals making electrical connections quick and easy.Additionally, EnerSys products offer the highest ventpressure in the market. As a result, our batteries aremore resistant to venting and dryout from continuousovercharge in standby applications.8. Fastest recharge - EnerSys pure lead chemistryallows our batteries and cells to offer the highestrecharge efficiency of any sealed-lead battery on themarket. With pure lead, you can achieve a 95%state of recharge in less than one hour - without lossof capacity or electrolyte using conventionalconstant-voltage charging techniques.Flexible charging options are possible with CYCLON battery Single Cells and Monoblocs, as no current limit isrequired when using a constant voltage charger.9. Orientation/placement/transport - Due to the products'mechanical design, CYCLON batteries can be mountedand operated in any position, an attractive feature for lessaccessible areas.CYCLON battery Single Cells offer UL 94V-0 flameretardant packaging, thus allowing the mounting ofsystems in sensitive areas and human environments.Plus, the unique and flexible 2-volt CYCLON batterySingle Cell allows you to design your system usingan almost infinite number of ective September 30, 1995, CYCLON battery SingleCells and Monoblocs were classified as “nonspillablebatteries”, and are excepted from the Department ofTransportation's comprehensive packaging requirementsif the following conditions are satisfied: (1) The batteryis protected against short circuits and is securelypackaged and (2) The battery and outer packagingmust be plainly and durably marked “NONSPILLABLE”or “NONSPILLABLE BATTERY”. CYCLON batteryshipments from the EnerSys plant in Warrensburg,Missouri will be properly labeled in accordance withapplicable regulations. Packaging changes performedat other locations may require additional labeling, sincein addition to the battery itself containing the requiredmarking, the outer packaging of the battery must alsocontain the required marking: “NONSPILLABLE” or“NONSPILLABLE BATTERY”.CYCLON battery Single Cells and Monoblocs have beentested and determined to be in compliance with thevibration and pressure differential tests contained in 49CFR § 173.159(d).Because CYCLON battery Single Cells and Monoblocsare classified as “Nonspillable” and meet the conditionsabove, [from § 173.159(d)] they do not have an assignedUN number nor do they require additional DOT hazardlabeling. The regulation change effective September 1995, wasto clarify and distinguish to shippers and transporters, all batteries that have been tested and determined tobe in compliance with the DOT Hazardous MaterialRegulations, the International Civil AeronauticsOrganization (ICAO), and the International Air TransportAssociation (IATA) Packaging Instruction 806 and SpecialProvision A67, and therefore excepted from all otherrequirements of these regulations and classified as a“nonspillable battery”.10. Shelf life - Pure lead batteries have an extremely lowself-discharge rate, thus providing extended storagecapability while maintaining high state-of-charge levelsfor dependable operation.CYCLON battery Single Cells and Monoblocs havea shelf life more than two times that of conventionallead batteries. To assure maximum reliability, EnerSysrecommends that all stored cells/batteries be recharged(boost charged) once every 24 months or when the opencircuit voltage drops to 2.00 volts per cell, whicheveroccurs earlier. Inventory should be checked morefrequently if storage temperature regularly exceeds 25 C.Publication No: US-CYC-SG-003 - June 2008

Constantvoltage charging, where a singlevoltage level is applied across thebattery terminals, is the most suitablemethod to recharge CYCLON batteries. Depending on the CVcharger's current limit, it is possibleto recharge these batteries from a100% discharged condition to betterthan 95% state of charge in less thanone hour, using only the cyclic chargevoltage.Constant voltage charging2.08OCV, VCharging recommendations:Constant voltage (CV) chargingshould be within the following ranges:2.052.02Fast Chargers, Per cell:2.45 to 2.50 volts @ 25 C1.991.961.931.90102030405060708090100State of Charge, %Storage time as a function of temperature for CYCLON Battery Single Cells& Monoblocs (fully charged cell)www.enersys.com12 volts:14.70 to 15.0 volts @ 25 C(for a maximum of 16-20 hours)Float Chargers, Per cell:2.27 to 2.35 volts @ 25 C12 volts:13.62 to 14.10 volts @ 25 CTo avoid thermal runaway in warmertemperatures, and to improve chargeacceptance in colder temperatures, the charger voltage should becompensated by approximately3 millivolts per cell per degreeCentigrade variance from 25 C.This is a negative coefficient, withthe voltage being lowered as thetemperature increases, and vice versa.Publication No: US-CYC-SG-003 - June 20087

There is no need to limit the inrush current to the batteryduring constant voltage charging. The low internalresistance of EnerSys CYCLON battery Single Cells andMonoblocs allows for large inrush current without damage.Most current waveforms are not pure DC nor are they puresine waves. Therefore, consult the EnerSys ApplicationSupport Department for assistance when evaluating thecharger current waveforms for your specific application.Since not all of the charge returned is accepted to replenishthe electro-chemical potential, a good rule of thumb to useis that the charge returned should be 105% to 110% of thecapacity delivered on the previous discharge.A three-step 6-8 hour charge profile optimized for CYCLONcells and batteries is available on request from the TechnicalSupport Department of EnerSys.CYCLON Battery Product Family (All capacities at 10 hr. rate 25 C to 1.67Vpc)CYCLON Battery 2V Single Cell:Products CapacityPartNumberInternalNominalres. of fully short circuitcharged cell current forDiameterHeightmΩ @ 25 C charged cellin. mmin. mmDIMENSIONSHeight withterminalsin. mmWeightoz. gmin.TabsmmD cell2.5Ah0810-00045.0400A1.35 34.32.41 61.22.68 68.16.28 178.0.187x.025 4.75x0.64DT cell4.5Ah0860-00045.0400A1.35 34.33.78 96.04.05 102.99.68 274.4.187x.025 4.75x0.64X cell5.0Ah0800-00043.5570A1.75 44.52.87 72.93.21 81.512.77 362.0.250x.025 6.35x0.64E cell8.0Ah0850-00043.0665A1.75 44.53.94 100.14.28 108.717.28 489.9.250x.025 6.35x0.64J cell12.0Ah0840-00042.5800A2.04 51.84.85 123.25.34 135.629.60 839.2.312x.032 7.92x0.81BC cell25Ah0820-00041.51335A2.57 65.36.25 158.86.82 173.258.88 1669.2M6 (-) andM8 ( ) terminalsCYCLON Battery 4V Monoblocs:Internal res.Nominalof fully charged short circuitProducts CapacityPartMonobloccurrent forDiameterHeightNumber mΩ @ 25 C charged cellin. mmin. mmDIMENSIONSHeight withterminalsin. mmWeightoz. gmin.TabsmmD cell2.5Ah0819-001010.0400A3.13 79.51.81 46.02.75 69.9.80.36.187x.025 4.75x0.64X cell5.0Ah0809-00107.0570A3.80 96.52.12 53.83.02 76.71.62 .74.250x.025 6.35x0.64E cell8.0Ah0859-00106.0665A3.81 96.82.13 54.14.00 101.62.11 .96.250x0.25 6.35x0.64 CYCLON Battery 6V Monoblocs:Internal res.Nominalof fully charged short circuitProducts CapacityPartMonobloccurrent forLengthWidthNumber mΩ @ 25 C charged cellin. mmin. mm8DIMENSIONSHeightin. mmWeightlb. kgin.TabsmmD cell2.5Ah0819-001215.0400A4.48 113.81.81 46.02.75 69.91.15.52.187x.025 4.75x0.64X cell5.0Ah0809-001210.0570A5.48 139.22.12 53.83.02 76.72.16.98.250x0.25 6.35x0.64E cell8.0Ah0859-00128.0665A5.48 139.22.13 54.14.00 101.63.151.43.250x0.25 6.35x0.64www.enersys.comPublication No: US-CYC-SG-003 - June 2008
