Donaldson Company, Inc.Process owners/operators have important responsibilities relating to combustible hazards.Process owners/operators must determine whether their process creates combustibledust, fume, or mist. If combustible dust, fume, or mist is generated, process owners/operators should at aminimum: Comply with all applicable codes and standards. Among other considerations, current NFPA standardsrequire owners/operators whose processes involve potentially combustible materials to have a currentHazard Analysis, which can serve as the foundation for their process hazard mitigation strategies. Prevent all ignition sources from entering any dust collection equipment. Design, select, and implement fire and explosion mitigation, suppression, and isolation strategies thatare appropriate for the risks associated with their application. Develop and implement maintenance work practices to maintain a safe operating environment, ensuringthat combustible dust, fume, or mist does not accumulate within the plant.Donaldson recommends process owners/operators consult with experts to insure each of theseresponsibilities are met.As a manufacturer and supplier of Industrial Filtration Products, Donaldson can assist process owners/operators in the selection of filtration technologies. Donaldson Company, Inc.DescriptionPurpose and Intended UseCabinet Series 50 to 90 dust collectors are selfcontained, intermittent-duty collectors with envelopestyle filters. The Cabinet series collectors provide highlyefficient, low maintenance air cleaning. Filters arecleaned using the standard manual filter shaker.Cabinet collectors provide excellent efficiency onnuisance dust generated in industrial operations and area good choice for low airflow, light-load applications thatdo not require continuous airflow. Typical applicationsinclude grinding, buffing and polishing, abrasive blasting,batch mixing, and bag dumping. Often, individual Cabinetcollectors are dedicated to one or two machines.Designed to increase the versatility of the collector,standard options include a dust drawer, hopperpackage for a 5-gallon pail or 55-gallon drum, indoorand outdoor exhaust deflectors, HEPA filter packs,and exhaust silencers. Four filter media choices andthree construction options are among the many optionsavailable to customize the collector to the specificapplication.Four filter media selections offer a wide variety ofcharacteristics: cotton sateen is the standard mediaand provides good efficiency in applications up to 180 F;polyester sateen provides the same efficiency, but hashigher temperature resistance (240 F) and is moreabrasion-resistant; woven polyester provides betterdust release capabilities with lower efficiency; andpolypropylene provides some chemical resistance up to180 F.Note:Standard collectors (Models 54-90) arelimited to 150 F because of internal blowermotor.Combustible materials such as buffing lint, paper, wood, metal dusts, weld fume, or flammablecoolants or solvents represent potential fire and/or explosion hazards. Use special care whenselecting, installing, and operating all dust, fume, or mist collection equipment when such combustiblematerials may be present in order to protect workers and property from serious injury or damage due to afire and/or explosion.Consult and comply with all National and Local Codes related to fire and/or explosion properties ofcombustible materials when determining the location and operation of all dust, fume, or mist collectionequipment.Standard Donaldson Torit equipment is not equipped with fire extinguishing or explosion protection systems.1

Donaldson Company, Inc.OperationDuring normal operation, dust-laden air enters thecollector through the dirty-air inlet and passes throughthe collector where the dust collects on the outsidesurface of the filter media. As dust collects on the filtersurfaces, a dust cake forms, which actually improves theefficiency of the filters. The greater the amount of dustcake accumulated, the higher the efficiency of the filter.dirty-air inletThe filtered air flows up through the center of thefilters and into the clean-air chamber. Clean, filtered airdischarges through clean-air outlet located on top of thecollector.To clean the filters the fan must first be shut off. Pushingdown on the hand- or foot-operated shaker pedal andreleasing rapidly six times completes manual filtercleaning. Cabinet Collector, Models 54-90Inspection on Arrival1. Inspect collector upon delivery.2. Report any damage to the delivery carrier.3. Request a written inspection report from the ClaimsInspector to substantiate any damage claim.4. File claims with the delivery carrier.5. Compare collector received with description ofproduct ordered.InstallationUse proper equipment and adoptall safety precautions needed forservicing equipment.Electrical service or maintenance work mustbe performed by a qualified electrician andcomply with all applicable national and localcodes.6. Report incomplete shipments to the delivery carrierand your Donaldson Torit representative.Turn power off and lock out electricalpower sources before performing service ormaintenance work.7. Remove crates and shipping straps. Remove loosecomponents and accessory packages before liftingcollector from truck.Do not install in classified hazardousatmospheres without an enclosure rated forthe application.8. Check for hardware that may have loosened duringshipping.9. Use caution removing temporary covers.Installation Codes and ProceduresCodes may regulate recirculatingfiltered air in your facility.Consult with the appropriate authoritieshaving jurisdiction to ensure compliancewith all national and local codes regardingrecirculating filtered air.Safe and efficient operation of the collector depends onproper installation.Authorities with jurisdiction should be consultedbefore installing to verify local codes and installationprocedures. In the absence of such codes, installcollector according to the National Electric Code,NFPA No. 70-latest edition and NFPA 91 (NFPA 654 ifcombustible dust is present).A qualified installation and service agent must completeinstallation and service of this equipment.All shipping materials, including shipping covers, mustbe removed from the collector prior to or during collectorinstallation.Failure to remove shippingmaterials from the collector willcompromise collector performance.Inspect collector to ensure all hardware is properlyinstalled and tight prior to operating collector.Site selection must account forwind, seismic zone, and otherload conditions when selecting the loca
