Introduction The integration of oral health into medical care is an important step in optimizing overall health Massachusetts Medicaid program (MassHealth) 1 Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) - A set of primary care providers partner with other specialtycare providers to deliver coordinated, patient-centered, value-based care for its members 2 The MassHealth ACO program includes an “oral evaluation” quality metric within the“Population Health” quality measure slate 3

ObjectiveThe objective of this project is to map out and identify the geographic proximityof community health center (CHC) dental clinics to MassHealth ACO practiceslocated across Massachusetts.

Arc GIS ArcGIS a web-based geographic information system software tool Creating maps Compiling geographic data Organizes layers of information into visualizations using maps Analyzes spatial location 4

MassHealth ACOs

CHC Dental Clinics

ACOs and Dental Clinics

Proximity of Dental Clinics to ACOs

Proximity of Dental Clinics to ACOs

Findings Proximity of Dental clinics to their ACO– 60% within 5 miles– 77% within 10 miles– 70% are collocated with MassHealth ACOs (39/56 Dental CHCs) Average travel distance - 5.6 miles (range 0- 30.8 miles) Average travel time - 14 mins (range 0- 185 mins)

Conclusion The majority of MassHealth ACOs have a dental clinic either connectedto them or within close proximity thereby better facilitating theintegration of medical and dental care within the MA Medicaid program

Future Direction Even though there are significant number of CHC dental clinics co-located withMassHealth ACOs, communication and integration between the medical & dentalsystems can be improved Collect data on list of MassHealth dental providers Support development of a formal, bi-directional referral system between MassHealthmedical & dental providers
